Where do i start?
Bracknell, the home of chavs, ranging from the hideous town centre to the sprawled council estates which make up this no.1 chavspot. I don’t know if many of you know bracknell, but it’s situated in the royal county of Berkshire located near the affluent areas of Wokingham and Windsor. Bracknell is the exception. Ever since the first concrete slab was laid (on the priestwood estate i guess), this town has gone from bad to worse. These estates house the London overspill and Bracknell is originally a cheap council town.
Take a walk down the grey, depressing High Street, what do you see? Well, apart from a sea of burberry caps, prams, gold chav earrings, and chavs all situated under a cloud of smoke, there is nothing. Careful not to walk into the latest 16 year old mother claiming benefit, otherwise her 14 year old boyfriend and 2 year old kid might get rowdy :0 Mac Donalds is the famous hunting ground for little shits aged 12-17. Expect a hostile environment if you are a non-chav and you walk into there.
Bracknell is known to have one of the highest teenage pregnancies rate in the U.K. ,its a fact. The average age of being a mother here is 14.3 i guess. I expext the boys are too scared to walk into a shop and buy jonnies. Each estate was built with it’s own estate shopping parade, there are many in Bracknell. The local group of shits claim this area and are found a few paces from the door between the times of 6-10 at night. This is their prime time to BEG the good and honest locals to buy their red square/breezers/lambrini and not forgetting lambert/sovereign/mayfair. Say no to them, and expect abuse ranging from “you caaaaaan***t” to “oi wa*ker”.
I can’t stress enough….do not venture out onto Great hollands, Bullbrook, Priestwood, Easthampstead, Wildridings and mount pleasant estates at night. You will be fighting for your life. These are notorious drug areas with high crime rates. Yes, there are some nice areas to these estates, but the bulk of these areas are downtrodden, neglected and crime is rife. Gold clown wearing slags tend to dominate the estate parks, especially when bunking off lessons at brackendale school. You can expect to find a range of chavs on the local bee line bus which maraudes the estates collecting all the chavs and dumping them off at the run down bus stop on the Bracknell inner ring road. On a typical Saturday shopping trip, these chavs tend to steal anything and everything from the town centre, beware bentalls. Bracknells town centre is a joke. It is made out of a giant cement mixer which spilt it’s load of nasty concrete in a strategic position. All of the centre is pedestrianised, with many underpasses and walkways linking the estates to the centre. Graffiti removal teams hae to be on their toes 24/7 due to the prolific graffit problem found here. If you ever visit chavnell town centre, expect to see grey, ALOT OF IT. Tower blocks will loom over you and you will feel intimidated. Need i say more? Bracknell is a dump
hi all i live in great holland but grew up in chavey down
and i think the person who wrote this all be it a bit
angery is actualy spot on i have lived in bracknell 32
years and have lived in great hollands for the past 5

scool great hollands and bracknell in genral nothing but a breeding ground for scum !!!! tell me im wrong !
I went to Bracknell recently for a weekend seminar, travelling from Cambridge in a suit and arriving in the dark at the train station in the middle of the evening. I could see the Grange Hotel a short distance away and decided to walk, but took the wrong way in the pedestrian underpass system. I was immediately approached by a young couple who asked where I was going and joked about how easy it was to lose your bearings if not a local.
They then went out of their way to guide me to the front door of my hotel, chatting amiably and shaking my hand before leaving.
Over the weekend I walked to all of my meetings through the underpass system and I did not encounter any chavs, drunks, mess, or even much graffiti.
In my experience the people are kind and polite, the town is exceptionally clean and the green areas are beautifully planted and maintained.
It is easy to be critical of ‘new towns’ and generalise the residents for the purpose of writing a comical piece, however it is rarely appropriate or fair.
well, I live in Bracknell right next to great hollands, while I’m occasionally intimidated by SOME people who live there the majority are nice people. you cant let the occasional chav make you hate Bracknell.you obviously aren’t telling the truth because your facts are very incorrect, like when you said “The average age of being a mother here is 14.3 I guess”,you can tell this because the way you say “I guess” and also I’m 15 and I’m definitely not a mother, in fact I know NO teenage mums in my entire school.also I live in Bracknell and I’m a teenager so does this mean I’m “a little shit”?
Oh Tabby, you can’t even write properly. You truly are a chavscum.
Bracknell is really not that bad.
I have spotted alot of spelling mistakes in this review of Bracknell. I assume that it was written by an angry 18 year old “emo” who gets beaten up constantly. I live in Reading and on the edge of a rough council estate where i spent most of my youth years and now im a youth worker at the age of 20. I could of been classed as a chav then and perhaps now as i wear Nike trainers and Ralph Lauren polos, but i guess thats negative stereotyping naive and scared people like the person who wrote thise article probably is (The main article).
Bracknell is mostly a dump, but there are worst places – Reading isn’t exactly heaven, and Slough is mostly a lot worse than Bracknell. Some parts of Bracknell, like Warfield and Martins Heron, are quite decent middle class areas.
LOL at how over the top this article is, i live in martins heron and i’ve lived here for almost 7 years now.. and yes fair enough i agree that bracknell is not really the nicest place around… but “fighting for your life” come on seriously, a lot of my family is from south east london, now THAT is fighting for your life, like somebody above said you are alot safer in bracknell then alot of places in london, but anyways, Bracknell does have a lot of chavs, and yes the town centre is pretty gross, but all in all its just a working class area, personally, when i first moved to bracknell i thought the area was an absolute dump at first glance, but honestly the crime rates really arent that high, and it really isnt such a bad place as this article says.
Same as me i grew up in south london if you want to know aboit fighting for your life at night tale a trip there
I find that the people who are leaving Bad comments about Bracknell have either come from very posh areas or have never actually lived in rough ones before!
I moved here 4 years ago and have lived in Easthampstead, Harmans Water, and Great Hollands and all are lovely!
I have had no trouble at all in Bracknell, and I am frankly a huge hippy
Most people here aren’t chavs, in fact, quite the opposite. Non of my friends are chavs, and you may see a few in the town centre, but then thats any town in the world! haha!
I think the person who wrote article this has obviously never left their little mansion in Ascot before
I have lived in some bad areas, and I can tell you now Bracknell is heaven! Love it here!
Admittedly i live in in ascot but i go to school in bracknell the only reason im still here is my friends but as soon as i leave school im outta here
I’ve lived in Bracknell since I was 7, Schooled at Brakenhale Comp. and can see the humour in the original article.
I think a lot of towns appear the same to anyone who doesn’t look for good and as the saying goes “it’s easy to criticise”.
Bracknell is the home to many large companies HQ’s so the people and jobs here are working and live close by, if not IN Bracknell.
I have never claimed benefits, have worked since I was 14 in a job of some sort and currently own a home in the Birch Hill area, and am currently looking to buy bigger – in Bracknell.
My current job frequently takes me from Bristol to Cambridge, and inside London and I rarely see anything that looks much different to the setup we have here, if not worse: less greenery, more crowds, higher house prices and nothing but towering flats everywhere! (I’m sure we only have one main tower of flats here, greater than 3 floors, away from the small town centre and that is a landmark -Point Royal which is famous!!)
The traffic here is fair, rush hours on main roads can be pretty painful, but flowing. When you are a local its fairly easy to avoid
..and where isn’t busy at rush hour nowadays?
M4 & M3 access is excellent, and back routes when these are bad are plentiful via Ascot, the A30 and Maidenhead.
I did my A-Levels but got put off doing a degree by “new” Labour (the icon of chavness in my opinion) and so worked for various large companies based in and around Bracknell (Hewlett Packard, Honeywell etc). Did an apprenticeship worked my way through some harder times and now earn much higher than average wage. And I was brought up in a single parent household where my mother struggled with us 3 and a mortgage.
I don’t think it’s fair to say that people in an area are bad because of the area, maybe they’d have been that way wherever they had grown up. I even think that sometimes cheaper areas are where the claimants are usually housed, and that could have a part to play here, as I find the mentality of the parents can easily influence their offsprings and that is everywhere.
All in all lots of areas of Bracknell come from a bad experience that is blown way out of proportion, like the shark attack thing when jaws was filmed. Basically, come and live in Bracknell, and give it a chance and you’ll have a normal time, hopefully good, but don’t have preconceived notions, as thats not fair on anything.
As far as I know the person whom this article was written by may be some unsociable, moany, unrealistic, molly coddled snob who moans about anything, or just having a bad week when this post was conceived.
Hopefully people are clever enough to know that one persons opinion are easily skewed from the truth by a single experience, be it positive or negative.
High property development in Bracknell shows how desirable to live here it is, and if the Olympics bid wasn’t received the town would be improved already. There just aren’t enough skilled over here to do the Olympics and other large projects for a fair price. it’ll come soon after the Olympics are finished – hopefully.
I think that a system that is making it nigh on impossible for younger workers to have kids and still afford a mortgage and live a good life, let alone get a mortgage at a young age’s wage, …then offering them a free house if they have kids, is to blame for the general condition in society. If you want a place of your own and not work hard for it – have a kid with any bloke who is stupid enough to do it. – viola! eradicate the impossibility of a wage buying the smallest house and the low earners can buy it and progress without claiming, instead of letting the entrepreneurs swallow them all up, then want more than mortgage payments to rent them from them – its a joke system really, c’mon
Some of your observations are accurate, but could be applied to many British towns now. Many other comments are grossly exaggerated, however.
Kids love growing up in Bracknell because the estates are far from busy roads and they’re not as crime-ridden as you imply. You’re much safer in Bracknell than you’d be in most of London.
It’s a shame your inaccurate rant overshadows what in other respects is a fair description of working class Britain – not just Bracknell. Bracknell appears at first glance a town dominated on the High street by working class chavs – true, the town centre is an eyesore. But you make no mention of the unseen majority of middle class suburban professionals getting on with more constructive things. Perhaps you should research your articles more thoroughly rather than writing unsubstantiated opinions like “I gues”. And include a broader base of opinions as you’ve obviously been given a pretty one-sided image of this town
Bracknell scum bag cu@ts
I’ve lived in bracknell for the past 6 years or so and i don’t think it’s too bad. Admitted it hasn’t got a good reputation, but it’s not that bad.
I’ve got friends in Great Hollands, Easthampsted, Bullbrook and Preistwood and it’s not as bad as it is portrayed. I’ve been out there at night before and wasn’t left “fighting for my life” at all.
Untill you’ve actually lived in Bracknell and got to know the area, you’re fine.
Wanna know a bad area? Norrey’s Avenue in Wokingham. Have at it.
iv lived in Bracknell all my life I love it here . we have some great play parks for kids lots of fields for sports, we have the ice rink , cinema and bowling, the lookout is a great place to go for nice walks or a cycle. Bracknell is green! it is a built up town but while developing it they seem to have left trees in the ground and pretty flower patches everywhere iv visited towns before that really are concrete cities and Bracknell is definitely not one of them. Bracknell has one of the lowest rates of teenage pregnancies that really is a fact. I rarely see teens hanging around shops late at night and when I come into contact with the younger generation of Bracknell they are always respectful, helpful and polite. I do completely agree that the town centre is diabolical and yes something needs to be done about that, the pubs and clubs and restaurants are also pretty poor round here and on a regular basis I find my husband and I getting a taxi out of town if we want to have an evening out together. The schools in Bracknell are all fairly good as well I know of schools out of town that are allot worse.Ranelagh having the best GCSE results for miles around and brilliant at getting the kids through exams, Garth coming a very close second and expertly getting the kids ready for life after school. Its one of the best places in England to live for young and old, Thinking of moving here? defiantly do it! xx
I’m amazed at this. I live in Bracknell and go to Ranelagh (which is one of the best Secondary Schools in England) and I’ve only ever in my entire life here seen maybe 2 teenage mothers. No one I know is a chav… I only ever see chavs around Brakenhale really, but I’m not saying Brakenhale is an extremely chavy school , just that I see more around that area. and there is nothing badly wrong about the youth around here, I find myself getting around fine. Maybe >John< you just ask for trouble .. not everyone around here is like this , so stop being so sterotypical. I live in a really cute area of Bracknell , where everyone is friendly and no one is stabbed (not that I've actually ever heard of someone being stabbed around Bracknell) . You're right though, the town here is crap. The council is 'attempting' to do it up , but really they're just losing good shops in the process. But give them a bit of time, they'll have another look and realise how crap it is there and hopefully do it up properly. At least we admit that we have our faults, but really they circle round the town centre. If you think it's the Youth's fault that you don't like Bracknell, blame their up-bringing, not them .
had the dis pleasure of recently having 2 move 2 bracknell an it is hideous. i moved from bournemouth which in comparison is a haven. from the evil stares from fat familys in the street 2 the constant parade of muscle dogs an the child chavs stalking shops oh an not 2 mention all the police warnings every where. i cant wait 2 get out of here, truely bracknell is the worst place in england
