I was raised in Friar Park in absolute poverty. I lived in a council house with no heating and damp throughout. The children were mostly feral and were all trying to gain 'top dog' status by beating people up and stealing from whoever they could.

Sandwell is one of the most deprived boroughs in the country and its fair to say the area lacks essential resources needed in education, health and housing.

However, the majority of people in the area have little ambition to attain the skills they need to improve their lifestyle.

It would be ridiculously unjust to tarnish all residents with the same brush, but it does in places have striking similarities to the Chatsworth Estate.

Whilst my parents didn't have much they encouraged me to reach my full potential, which I have. A lot of the children I went to school with are in jail, on drugs or on benefits. They also regularly moan about the hard time they get for being on benefits, in spite of the fact they consider it a lifestyle choice. Leaving was the best thing I ever did.

I make no claim to being an intellectual - the inference was yours. However, I do hold academic tenure and over the years have supervised and examined many doctoral candidates in my discipline. Very little fighting is involved, as at postgraduate level we tend not to 'beat' things into our 'pupils', but the process does require skill.

While I have not lived on Friar Park for a very long time I regularly visit family members who still reside there, and it both saddens and angers me to read ill-informed and disparaging comments about the area and its residents. Perhaps I should just stop reading them...

Perhaps the most depressing aspect of this website is the way that it encourages people to mark specific geographic areas - and by inference all those that live there - as unworthy of consideration or respect. Frankly, this is shameful behaviour.

Middle class people in Friar Park...? Best laugh I've had in ages.

Whilst there are minute pockets of decent homes with decent folk living there, there is alot of nasty, thieving, benefit grabbing, drug taking scumbags all sat waiting outside Dr Ahmed every day to get their sick notes. Young, pasty faced single mothers trot around with equally pasty faced kids with no manners, no aspiration and no hope of ever being a useful member of society.

It saddens me how our great little working class towns have become the epitome of underclass scum.

I live in Wednesbury and the funny thing is what you said about friar park more or less true, but the pig and trumpet is probably one of the worst pubs in Wednesbury. It has been raided many times due to people in there drinking under age and the fact that 'chavs' have been snorting coke and taking other drugs in the toilets. Wednesbury isn't even that bad considering there's other places where kids are getting 'shot up' just for wearing a colour.

Yew Tree is not Wednesbury. It's postcode is Walsall, but it actually falls under Sandwell. Overall Wednesbury is quite nice. The vast majority of people in Wednesbury are friendly, helpful and down to earth. Don't know why you have such a hangup about Friar Park. I spent my youth visiting mates living on Friar Park and never had a problem. I think you may have a thing about chavs (as you put it). It's unfortunate that Friar Park has a large number of unemployed (no fault of most). The council do not wish to plough any money into this particular area and therefore, because of the lack of funds, the poor estate keeps losing out. The majority of folk who live on Friar Park have done for years and make the best of what they can afford.
It's unfair to place everyone who lives there in the same catergory.
