Let’s dissect Telford to find out why it’s the Numero Uno Chav capital of the World!
I moved to Telford several years ago to escape the disproportionate prices of housing in Bridgnorth, which in itself is showing very worrying signs of chav infiltration… but I digress.
What is it about Telford that makes it such a filthy chav breeding pit? Consider the following:
- It’s a “New Town”. It was built with one specific purpose – to relieve the overcrowded slums of the West Midlands and Manchester of the modern Chav’s ancestors (Chavcestors).
- They built a dual carriageway right through the centre – a perfect drag strip for thrashing the arse off a 1.2 Nova with a phat boy exhaust and UV shite lights on the underside. It also boasts extensive grass verges, which make an ideal dumping ground for clapped out untaxed Cavaliers.
- Telford Development Corporation built thousands of shoe box “houses” to accommodate the Chavcestors, complete with dark alleyways, underpasses, etc. Like rats, the population interbred furiously, producing the mutant Telford Chav that is rife today.
- Richie Woodall, Chav Idol, is from Telford. It’s like Chav Mecca on that count alone.
- Telford has two massive Asda, or Chavda, stores within 3 miles of each other. Chav Magnet x 2.
- Before building any decent social infrastructure they built an ice rink and a bowling alley (“Chav Alley”). Enough said.
- It has a perfect symbiosis between rich, powerful Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese firms, who set up base here years ago, and a cheap, expendable labour force. Career expectations are therefore set low and remain that way.
So there you have it – the UK’s only purpose-built Chav town!
Hmmm, Telford. Lived there from 1969 till 2004. Saw Telford Development Corporation build the Town Centre, Brookside, Sutton Hill, Madely and most of the South part of Telford. Saw all the small villages like Little Dawley, Lawley, Oakengates, Ketley, St Georges etc swallowed up into one sporadic Connurbation we now call Telford (I’ve dropped the New Town bit coz it’s over 40 years old). Saw the downfall and sad demise of the little towns like Oakengates and more recently Wellington because of the new shopping areas taking away their trade. Pity really. Saw the Chav culture in it’s infancy (anyone remember “TYO Farlow” graffiti or how about the Super Trench Aggro Boys AKA STAB from the 1970s?). Was educated here. Got 10 O’ Levels at the Wrockwardine Wood Comprehensive School, got an apprenticeship at REME Donnington, got more education with ONC and HND. Had my car broken into three times. Did get revenge though, I got one of the thieves arrested and sent down, harrowingly was the son of a friend of mine. Saw the Far East companies like Epsom move into Hortonwood. I got married in Telford and divorced ten years later. I have a son who lives there with his mum and step dad. They both work outside Telford (come on, you think they would work for some low paid Chav job? Their IQs reach to over double figures, not struggle to reach them)! I now live down south, as an engineer and have a salary to match. Also have a degree. Surprising really, as I was part of one of those Midland families who came over to Telford during the overspill of the late 1960s! Where did I get my brains from, I wonder? Still, I have family and friends who live in Telford. They have it tough sometimes. Cars still get broken into. Tan Bank is like Beirut on a bad day most of the time, Telford town Centre is a noisy, smelly, dirty place with absolutely no character and you sometimes take your life in your own hands going through Town Park certain times of the day! Luckily, Telford has not got the coveted crown of being Drug town No1. You have to look a bit further south. It also has the Eastern Primary, essentially a brilliant idea. Linking all of Telfords’ villages and urban areas together to make commuting fairly easy. I live in Bournemouth and work 20 miles away, which takes over an hour sometimes to get to work. Employment: Well that’s a tough one. As I’ve said before, wages are woefully inadequate in this hard looking town. That’s one of the reasons why I moved and I think that if you want to get a good life, salary and career, then you have to move away. Telford can offer one of the three, but not all at the same time. Other than that, I enjoyed my life in Telford. I grew up in Trench, had great times going out, playing guitar in Rock bands, meeting people, getting into fights, getting drunk, loud and lairy over a 20 yr period. I have left Telford though and feel a stranger in a strange land when I come and visit because in the short time I’ve been away, it’s changed almost beyond comprehension. Either way, Telford will remain in my eyes a town of diversity, austerity (Tan Bank and parts of Sutton Hill spring to mind here) richness (Iron Bridge, Lilleshall) Steel and Glass, strangely designed houses and eccentrically named streets/roads. I for one, however will never return to live. I’m now an unabashed Southern Softy and aim to stay that way.
ive lived in woodside all my life and the whole of telford is getting worse, the kids dont have any respect for anyone or anything, but not everyones bad, im 28 ive worked self employed since i was 15, i didnt hav my first kid till i was 25,i wernt pregnant at the age of 15 or on drugs or a piss head, the rough estates woodside brookside suttonhill are a nightmare to live on but their is community spirt and most people do care when you need them my mom and dad died when i was younge and people did go out their way to help if we needed them,
its the dickheads that dont give a shit what their kids are up2 or what their doing that reck it for the rest of us,its the way their brought up in the 1st place.
the good points are woodside sutton hill ect are really cheap house house prices so good 1st step on the property ladder
IF THERE WAS A CERFEW ON KIDS TO BE IN BY 7 THAT WOULD SOLVE MOST THE PROBLEMS!!!!
This is to cotton 2707.Have a look around Telford. It’s gray and miserable and there is nothing to do. At least in bridgnorth you can go out for a drink with out the fear of being mugged, raped and murdered.
Yes we have schools not a “scool” in bridgnorth. These schools teach us that biologically it is impossible for homosexuals to reproduce. Bye the way schools also teach us to spell bridgnorth without a E in it you homophobic chav.
Telford was rubbish, but that made it all the more pleasant to leave after the short visit. Here’s my blog post on it: http://1pumplane.wordpress.com/2010/08/03/telford/
It was already pointed out that there are good places and bad places in Telford and it really all depends on what part of Telford you are from. I am from south Telford and admittedly there are a few chavs around here but at the same time there are a lot of good people around here.
Yes it is also known as the birthplace of industry and we do have the Thomas Telford school of excellence. Various sports stars are also associated with Telford and not just Ritchie Woodhall. Example would be Andy Cole who played for Manchester United.
No Telford is not perfect but neither is anywhere else and everywhere has its problems with so called “chav culture” but something I always stick to is the saying “never judge a book by its covers” I just love showing people up when they look down upon me. I guess they don`t expect me to have an IQ of 140+
Telford is a shit hole? and there should be a wall built round the scum hole to keep all the crap people there. Rude ,pikey, druggy over spill of the west midlands with no go area’s enougth said?
I find this very offensive although most of Telford is full of the vermin we call “chavs” there are still a few people like me who just live here because we have to, I cannot wait to get out of this place and off to uni but for now it will do
You get bad people where ever you go , so if you cannot live with that then I am sorry for you .
you all need to get a blood clott life and telford is not bad but shite !!!!!!!!
telford isnt even that bad anymore, it used to be like 4years ago packed with chavs in gangs but its not that bad anymore i think
Loving the fact that every comment defending Telford is riddled with spelling mistakes.
I come from Bridgnorth and there are some things the shops simply don’t provide for so a trip to Telford can be necessary but I’m always careful to save up these occurences so that I can get it over and done with in one go.
At one point I think I was averaging only two visits a year.
I can’t go on without mentioning Madeley. I had to go to Telford for a first aid course once and the Dole office had sent some of its long term unemployed there too. Every last one of them was from Madeley and when I went outside for a cigarette a couple tried to befriend me.
I think they thought I was unemployed too and weren’t exactly bad people but all had direct experience of stealing and burning cars.
One chap had over 30 driving convictions but had never had a license or owned a car.
Telford…Hmmm good parts and bad same as any other place. Lived here all my life, used to be nice. Now is just a dumping ground for any crap that cant get housing anywhere else! Vandanlising brats, parents that don’t give a f*** as long as they get the handouts from the social…Need i go on? Safe to say i will be out of this hole as soon as possible.
Just a few things, Firstly, Jar-Jar Binks, If we are all so sad, why are you on this website too?? Secondly, Hazeleyes, Don’t attempt to offend somebody and spell the words wrong it’s embaressing for you. Third and finally, I live in telford also, have done a long time, i have however lived in a few other places around the country and must admit that Telford is the dirtiest place i have lived, it’s full of beggars, thiefs and other general scum. Yes i have many friends here who are fantastic but as always, it’s the majority that ruins it for the minority and this is excactly why. Telford is probably the worst place a person can reside!
how can someone who moved from bridgenorth possibly complain about the people of telford, when bridgenorth is a town ..”sorry” a factory for breeding interbred , homo-sexual hob-goblins. if telford is so bad f*%k off back to your caves.
I see you also say we are only famous for ritchie woodhall so you obviously never took much notice in history at scool (thats if they have schools in bridgenorth) because you forgot to mention: Sir Thomas Telford, the ironbridge , Captain Web (the first man to swim the channel)…oh and amongst other things we were the birth place of industry !!
Everybody on this website is so, very strange…
Ft Telford. Yer all fukin scummy bastards!!
CHAV-HATINGBASTARD..thankyou…
ive also lived in telford all my life and id just like to say that you lot are the ones with the problem just because you go around with your heads up your arse
n u cant just catagorise the whole of telford as chavs and bty way …im not a chav but i do have friends who could be classed as that and they are some of the best down to earth people i know and i can have a better laugh with them then the private school educated fools i go to uni with
grow up u narraw minded bunch of wankers
if its so bad…move
Yes about the staff, they are so unproffessional. Mumbling bastards, only went in there to find some trainers for the gym, the only ones I could find were chav white retro trainers!! Grr!
Oh I forgot to mention, the retail park just off the motorway coming into Telford has a Sports World, which at any one time is guaranteed to have 90% chav staff and 80% chav customers. Its disgusting.
As part of my job I had to make a home call in Stirchley years ago. My job was simply to sit and guard the car while a colleague went to the house. There was a gang of ratboys watching me throughout.
