The good old Historic market town of Saffron Walden has seriously gone downhill in the past few years.
Chavs now pretty much own the town after about 7 pm, swarming all over the place like a plaugue of burberry clad rats. In this lovely town, you will come across the most unoriginal people, idiots all wearing a parka, nike dunks or reeboks, a baseball cap with random american sports teams all over them, and drinking stella or for the ladies, blue WKD. The best place to “hang” is the common, where a group of 20 somethings with no lives drive their ‘cool’ ford fiestas and vauxhaull novas, and playing some guy “chatting” really loud with some generic drum n bass music in the background.
I had the good fortune of walking across the top of the common a few weeks ago when I was attacked and thoughroughly beaten by about twenty 15 year olds, simply because I “was wearing black.”
A regular patrol of chavs circle the common, their loud exhausts making clear that it is their territory.
In the dark of the common, where no lights can reach, many a strange occurance happens. Drug dealing is common in the dark, you are able to pick up very, very expensive drugs if you have a few hours to spare so you can wait. Saffron Walden is one of the most expensive places around to buy.
On entering parts of the town, you will be frequently asked for a “snout” which translates into ciggarette.
There are 4 roads which go around the common and the centre of the town, and beyond these roads is deemed the ‘safe zone’ where there are little chavs to encounter.
Apart from the swarms of chavs, there are the pub peoples. Popular pubs to go to are the White Horse, where it is suggested to learn self-defense or bring a knife if you want to go in. There is the Temeraire, where at points in the evening dozens of drunken chaps come out and harrass people. Many 14 and 15 year olds can purchase a pint at the “Lizzy” where the landlords dont care who they serve, this is the start of many a trouble.
There is so much wrong with this town it is unbelievable. I woukd write more, but you would all get bored
I visit Walden on a regular basis and I think that this is complete over exaggerated non sense. Walden is a lovely town. The “Lizzie” as you call it was shut down ages ago and The Temeraire does not house “drunken chaps” who “harass people”. They are merry for they have been drinking but i have never known any one recently to be harrassed. However I do apperciate that the Temeraire has had trouble in the past but that has changed. I have never been accosted and asked for a “snout”, in all the 19 years i have visited.
this is actually true, that is saffron walden, anyone who thinks it is not is either OLD and does not socialise, too young nad does nto socialise, or a geek with no freinds who does nto socialise.
but to anyone not hiding it is the truth, fights, but lately its more like kids realising they are just jumped up pussy’s so now they jsut go around stabing each other. this world is a mess, but it is the economy, why else does every city on here have negative comments, because everywhere is degrading!!!
The sun is the local hang out swarmed with 24 + yeard old men preying on 14+ girls becuase ralphy doesnt care who he serves. The men are insecure losers who have never and will never leave that town. thinking they run the show, but they are big fish in a very very very small pond!
I have had the pleasure of leaving saffron walden, so i am not in danger of being dragged down with these drugie, abusive dirty men.

Have you two not read the date at the bottom of the review, it says 2005! So yes by the time you read that the Lizzy & White Horse were both shut down. I having a feeling you two were both regulars to these establishments.
Also I have now lived in the town for 10 years and I have to say it is getting worse & worse. Every weekend in the pubs there seems to be battles between local families & Chavs, who after a couple of pints think they’re all Rambo.
The Tem & The Sun seems to have attracted most of the trouble, with fights breaking out regularly after a pint or two.
You can be guaranteed to open the local papers in the week on a Wednesday or Thursday to see yet more damaged caused by these retards who seem to think that rampaging through the town after 2 shandy’s is a ‘cool’ thing to do.
And Oliver, shall I remind you at why the Lizzy got shut down in the first place?…..Well for all the other readers out there it was because of drugs!
And there is still the Barry Boys doing laps round and round and round town all night long.
Saffron Walden isn’t as bas as a lot of other places to live but don’t dare to try and hide away from the truth. It’s starting to become very uch a s**t hole.
What a load of old tosh! I don’t know which Saffron Walden you are talking about but is certainly isn’t the one I live in!
This article contains complete and utter nonsense. Modern day Saffron Walden is nothing like this. First of all the “queen lizzy” and “white horse” have been shut down by authorities, and not for the matters you have listed above. I have never once been asked for a “snout”, after living here for 21 years. Saffron has been frequently voted one of the best places to live in England, basically your argument is completely unjustified and is not supported in any sense at all. Idiot.
You havent had the pleasure of mixing with the overspill of people who use to go to these pubs. I’ve been involved with them for the last year. There is a major drug problem, and there is everywhere. But these people dont leave the town, they have no one new to mix with and they are very narrow minded!
i have to question the contents of this post and i offer anyone who considers it as actuate infomation to visit Saffron Walden sometime. the various “attacks” and “patrols” are still to be found by myself but i honestly dont even believe that they exsist at all are the common of Walden.
Can i just ask what car do you drive and where do you come from that allows you to insult people who cannot afford BMWs and Ferraries that you seem to be a-custom to in your idiac area?
Im not saying that Saffron Walden, like all places, does not have its own problems but what you are saying here makes Saffron Walden sound like an out of control hive of intimidation, maybe you just do like England in which case i suggest you move somewhere else where you can live peacefully from all the problems of social cultures, If you can find a place that is.
