I lived for many years in Northolt and yes, it will never be what is was. The area has become criminalised and suffers from the invasion of illegal foreigners who have deceived the immigration service and I include asylum seekers (parasites) here.
I knew some great people in Northolt having spent many years living at Rectory Park Avenue prefabs all demolished in the 70s and then at the estate near Kingshill Avenue (won't mention the exact street for security reasons). But like every other town and suburb, it is becoming a "toilet". It will end up looking like Alperton, Wembley, Southall, Osterly, Hanwell all ruined with communities broken up by ethnic groups who have converted these areas into towns identical to their own countries of origin. They have become no go areas. Yes the chavs are not a very nice element of Northolt and at best, they are crass and unpleasant but those groups are on borrowed time, Northolt will go the same way as the aforemention towns so at least appreciate the chavs for whatever little time they have left in that area. I wish I could name those in this article who lived in the area living legends some of them (without giving too much away, Smudge, Jim L (mega hard), Bunny, Dave T, Earnst and John C (tough guys), Ziggie (hmm), Mick M, Del, Smudge and many more and who drank in The Firefly (demolished years ago), The Brook House not looking as good these days, The Byron Hotel burnt down by scumbags, The Target now a MacDonalds or Burger King Northcote Arms (Southall - off the beat)and the White Hart which always was a bit rough back in the 60s. The Trespassers a band who played on Friday nights at Downe Way JMI School where I met so many great girls and mates. I hate change with a passion but I hate even more the changes to out towns and suburbs by foreigners who have colonised them for themselves. It would be nice to turn the clock back to the 50s and 60s and make all the chavs and immigrants disappear into the ether and bring back the respectable working class who were good people all in all. Good bye Northolt! and the fond memories!

As a kid, I lived in Northolt between '67 & '76, having moved there from Rayners Lane. I have fond memories of the place, and of a time when people still looked out for each other. Alas, those days are gone! My folks moved the family to S.Bucks, seeking better educational opportunities for their kids, because they feared the area was becoming a ghetto. Indeed, I remember some charmless $*@^%! advertising his house "for sale to white family only" in Fort Road. Even my folks (generational racists) apologised to the immediate neighbours, after selling up to an Indian family! I never cared for the racist crap (I was at school in Southall), but found it, nonetheless, here in leafy Bucks. It doesn't seem to matter where in the country you are, there has never been a dearth of inconsiderate morons in the UK, regardless of colour or creed. Any market town has become a no-go zone on a Friday/Saturday night, unless you like excessive drinking, bawling & brawling. I blame the relentless dumbing-down of the education system - now they give you a gold star if you turn up for registration! As for exams, where's the sense of achievement (or ability) when everybody gets an A-level, even the illiterate? It's a shame that Northolt has become such a karsy, but it's hardly alone, and I fear that as the world population continues to grow at pace, the situation will only worsen. My grandparents grew up, amidst grinding poverty, in Glasgow/Newcastle, before settling in Harrow in the 30s, having moved south for employment. Sadly, they are no longer alive & I wonder if they would recognise the area today!

Ive lived here for 15 years now and it is getting worse depite the councils efforts to make things nice...new leisure center and swimming pool, the park with the big hills is ace.Islip manor park is great for my kids with new play equipment being added.Sadly,Northolt has its fair share of council scum(this doesnt apply to all council residences...but you know the type). They are given something for nothing and lots of it so they dont care about how much anything costs so trash the area.Im sick of this benefit generation.Ive had 4 bikes stolen in northolt and the last one i found tied to a lampost the next day.The local police were closed and 8 big black kids swarmed on me and my 3year old son.I could see them coming towards my son so had to let them take my bike, all of them laughing their heads off while my son was frozen in fear.God will judge these northolt scum and they will get theirs...also some kid threatened to
knife me at the underground for no reason but i faced up to him and he wet himself a bit.im a law abiding father of 2 and im sick of these scum(all nationalities, colour and religion).Be safe

I live in northolt and I'm now 15 I admit it's not the best of places but most of what you said is not true and you have just put everyone who lives in the area into one catagorie which is not true there are peaceful parts of northolt that people just decide not to go to and islip manor is not based around sex violence and drugs. Fair enough that maybe your point of view of northolt cause you may have spend how ever long of your life living here but northolt shouldn't be anywhere near the worst area to live in compare to other areas in London. And have you thought that maybe northolt doesn't provide enough place for a group of friends to go that's why you see them in parks and on the street doing nothing because they may not be allowed that many friends back at their homes.

So next time you start to try and slag off an area take a deeper look into why people do what they do and the area isn't all about fighting because I know most the people in northolt from different sides of northolt as well.

Lived in Northolt for the past 8 years, befor that Hayes for the best part of 40 years. And yes all the above written about this shit hole is true. If I could move tomorrow I would be gone. This whole area is full of chavs, thieves, scumbags and all their reletives..Southall's overspill is creaping into every part of West London. Soon the whole area will be run by these imigrants, England will be no more. Oh, sorry it's already happened.

I grew up in Northolt and lived in the same house there until 1974 when I was nineteen. My grandparents moved to Greenford in 1934 when their house was built and my parents bought our home in Carr Road, back in 1953. I moved away to go to university, although my father continued to live there until 1984. Since then I have return to visit friends in the area on a regular basis.

I'm afraid that I am an agreement with most of the comments made above. When I was growing up. Northolt was "respectable" as my mother would have said and the worst thing you could say about the area was that it was boring. Very, very boring.

As a kid growing up, there was nothing to do other than swim at the pool that opened in 1967. Then finally in about 1970, the Oriel Youth Club opened but was immediately colonised by the rougher element. Before long there were gang fights between mods and rockers in the street and drug dealing in the centre itself.

Since the 1970's Northolt has got increasingly tatty with fewer people bothering to keep their houses painted or the gardens under control. The cars parked on the front gardens of many houses doesn't help either. In general, the people seem a rougher lot than those I grew up with and the pubs more run down and depressing. There may well be small groups of professional people living in the area but they keep well hidden and the general feeling I get when I walk out of Northolt station is one of an area hanging on, just.

I came across this web-site when I was doing some research for an article I wanted to write about Northolt today. I'm not sure I will bother writing it now that I have read this piece. You seem to have said everything I had in my head... Anyway, here are two links to articles I wrote about Greenford and Northolt at an earlier time in their development:

I was brought up in Northolt, many years ago, and at that time it was semi-rural and a good place to live, Kensington Road still had farms, and Radcliffe Way and Medlar Farm were still fields where the fairs would come and pitch up once a year. I am not talking about the 40's I am talking about the 60's and 70's. I lived in a street where we could play outside safely, we came from good hardworking families and were brought up to respect other people's property. Northolt went down the pan when Ealing Council started to build large estates and bring in people from other areas. I no longer live in Northolt but have fond memories of growing up there. If Northolt is a Chav Town then blame the beaurocrats at Ealing who were determined to turn the area into a dumping ground for people chucked off other estates. Northolt dates back to Norman times, has a lot of history, something the Chavs wouldn't appreciate, so long as there is a co-op to buy cheap booze and fishfingers and pizzas for their offspring they are happy.

It's really not that bad. Compared to other places in London it's Really quite nice. And I haven't seen Amybody wearing Burberry since probably 2002! I think you're confusing Northolt with somewhere like Wakefield. Northolt's not the best of areas but it certainly doesn't deserve to be up there with the worst.

You sir, have got it all wrong. :)
