I`m from Boro but moved away for work ten years ago , it`s mad to say Boro is a shithole there is some decent areas in Boro and a lot of decent people .
Im not making excuses for the addicks or the chavs but there is no work for a lot of people in Boro and when people feel excluded they end up not giving a f**k – and thats what is wrong with some areas in Boro – in the 70s it was a great place to grow up and nearly everyone had two parents and they had jobs and life was so different from what it`s like today. Middlesbrough- Worst place to live….
Personally I think Middlesbrough has become Britians scapegoat to poor neglected areas. For all the other shitty areas you can pretend to have less alcoholics, less crack whores, and less bums in the benefit queue.
In reality everyone is DUMB in this country as you are all basing your opinions on what other ‘people’ are telling you.
Situations like this just give control back to our corrupt government and by being so gullible, spending your time hating a place that you have never been, you are falling in to their trap.
Children- The next generation?
Middlesbrough has nothing for children to do in their spare time, there aren’t many ‘career’ prospects and there ARE lazy people who could do with a kick up the bum just like everywhere. Instead of hating on Middlesbrough and the people who live here you should become aware that our council men and woman get paid SHIT LOADS and instead of looking at Middlesbrough and finding what the people actually NEED, they choose to spend money on ‘quick fixes’, that aren’t really fixing Middlesbrough’s identity at all.

The council have become obsessed with trying to make Middlesbrough ‘look better’ to the rest of the country that they are wasting money that could be spent on youth clubs/ skate parks/ after school classes for all ages. These things would help the Middlesbrough people and the future of this town.

First of all, you shouldn’t generalize the population entire of any place, not “everyone” in Middlesbrough has 15 kids, is an addict or scrounges benefits.
Most of the people who live in Middlesbrough are just live people who live everywhere else in the UK, some are educated, hard working and well spoken, some are illiterate , work shy idiots. Also Everyone gets broken into at some point, and students are an easy target, shut your windows and lock your doors,
I’ve lived in Middlesbrough for all of my 24 years and its done me no harm. Obviously it is hard to find work here so not everyone who has to use the benefit system wants to. If there isn’t a job for you its often the only way you can survive, and its not the fault of the people of Middlesbrough that the recession has caused job losses and stopped business from growing in the area. Ignorant people labeling Middlesbrough as some sort of hell hole devoid of morals really isn’t helping our situation much. Ok, so obviously Middlesbrough isn’t the most fabulous place to live on earth, you really don’t need to point that out to anybody, but it is surrounded by some beautiful places, you just need to get out of the center. To think that Middlesbrough has a bad standard of living is absurd and ridiculous, i’d rather live here than in a slum in Rio or Mumbai, or in the Congo or any other place with huge conflicts with no sign of ending. Think about how those people feel about the place they live when someone calls you a knob for not giving them a fag, boofuckinghoo!!

I worked up in the Brough for several years. The high light of our journy home was the “Crack Whore Spotting” as they waddled up to the car at the lights looking for tricks. What a hovel!

I lived in Stockton on tees and in middlesbrough i actually lived in grove hill . before any one speaks up middlesbrough they should live there a while i`m glad i`m away from it any longer and i would have ended up as a hoody addict.
Having lived in various area’s of the UK and other country’s, by far the worst/best place I have stayed is boro.
Worst – if you walk around the town, it’s unusual if you don’t have someone come over to you and ask, “ear mate, lend us a fag”, when you say no, the usual response is “maaahhh, ya nob-head” or the favourite “maaahh, ya daft c**t”. They actually make you feel like it’s your fault they have no fags.
Best – There is always some entertainment, you can guarantee that you will see at least one fight a week, the insults can actually be quite funny and you do leave the place with a superiority complex, which if you have a low feeling of self-worth, they will remind you that actually your life is not that bad.
The best thing in the town is the Army Careers Office, when asked about Boro, I usually tell people that I prefered living in Kosovo (at the time the Kosovo had been shelled to hell).
2nd year student here.
First year at halls of residence all places were often broken into, every month or two people would break in and steal Laptops, TVs, anything they could flog off to cash converters.
Also last year in the town i was raising money for charity and two chavs come up to me taking the piss. After laying down insults that they didn’t get because the planks never went to school, they continued to try and intimidate me for the rest of the day. Also had various other trash come up to me and my mates and spew shit, though they never had the balls to start a fight.
This year im living more in the middle of town.
Mutiple times i’ve been encountered by dodgey prostitutes on the streets, our house was broken into a few months back, my neighbours spotted various people looking in through their windows (which is what someone did before they broke into our house). Theres also been people fighting in our street at least a few times, and i often hear about fights in town. My neighbours, although nice people, are on the dole now, and them and others are constantly smoking skunk and snorting cocaine in their garden, and i can hear them very well all the time.
I’ve heard the further outside the town u go the nicer it is, but the town center is a shithole.
Every county has it’s shitholes, not just Teesside. But in all fairness to Middlesbrough, when you drive into Middlesbrough, the chemical and steel works are in Billingham and Redcar, yet visitors think it’s Middlesbrough. The worst place I’ve been to is West Bromwich (near Birmingham) in the West Midlands, it’s worse than Middlesbrough. And it’s wrong to judge Middlesbrough just on its centre. There are some nice housing estates, even some of the council estates are decent. It’s sad that people who live there, or who had been born there, point the finger at the place, when really they’re not educated, and have probably never visited many other places. Bits and bobs need improving in Middlesbrough, which is the case with every town and city. All in all, Middlesbrough isn’t nowhere near as bad as people say it is. Get educated first, then rate it.
I was born and raised in Boro. After our first child was born we decided to emigrate. I go back often to visit and each time I have noticed how much more apathetic and lazy people have become. There is a sense of entitlement to government handouts, all they do is complain but have money to drink, smoke and buy take out. I also found the young adults to be very superficial,shallow and uneducated while the adults act like they are in their second teenage hood.
Let me start by saying that I live in Middlesbrough and that I have lived in the Teesside area all my life.
It is, generally speaking, a shithole. While there are some areas “with money” the overall situation is “poor”. I’m not saying that being poor makes you an antisocial thug but the decline of work over several generations has left families to fester. Proper and decent behaviour is a concept with little reward for many of the inhabitants. They just don’t know any better or find being obnoxious a form of free entertainment.
Realistically, the elements I just described are probably in a minority but that minority is more concentrated here than other more civilised parts of the UK. It will take decades of investment to turn a place like Middlesbrough around and even longer for little ‘Wayne’ to realise that just because Granddad and his father before him were benefit babies, doesn’t mean it’s OK for him to be.
As a final word, it is absolutely moronic to cite a bridge, captain or fast food as counter-reasoning for why a place is not in dire straights. What effect does the Transporter bridge have on yobs? How does a long dead seafaring gentleman prevent or limit asbo behaviour? The Parmo (no matter how tasty) does not infer civilised behaviour upon it’s consumer.
Teesside is a proper shithole. My Girlfriend lives there, and seriously, the only redeeming factor about the place is the legendary Parmo. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of people make the best of a bum deal, there are some nice places like Yarm and Hartburn. The shipbuilding industry fell apart, along with the collieries, and unemployment breeds these scummy chav fuckers. Whole streets lay ready for demolition, it’s quite sad to see really. I go shopping in the town centre and hardly anyone smiles, the sky is almost always grey. Saw some kid in a pushchair shouting Paki at some asian guy. Not nice. Been to Billingham? Lovely views of the cooling towers from my Girlfriends house. Any building in Teesside that represented the rapid industrialisation since 1909 has pretty much been knocked down to build stores like Lidl and Aldi. Supply and demand I guess. No one here has any money, those that do move away.

I have to disagree with you, i was born and raised in Boro, I know the place like the back of my hand, I had friends on just about every estate. I go back every few years and sorry to say the vast majority do live of the government, are very superficial,have no education and limited communication skills (can’t understand a word they say). Teenagers male and female have no self respect or respect for anyone else. Their goal in life is to see how pissed they can get at the weekend.
