Now where do I start, this shithole is basically infested with chavs. If you’re a teenage mother in this town, you’ll fit in just fine! If you own a Nova and pointlessly drive it around the town, you’ll fit in just fine!
During the day you may find a few wannabe chavs, but after sunset out they come, infesting the town center with chav disease, starting fights with random innocent people. Where did they all suddenly come from Farley Skank, Malvern Way and Hollington all of which should be demolished and replaced by something that actually benefits the town.
Walk around the skank, ore and Hollington and you should see plenty of 15 year old mothers pushing their prams around, wearing her pink tracksuit with hooped earrings that has the same diameter as the moon. The males are normally found anywhere in town in their shitty Nova’s, which have had stickers stuck onto the rear window, to make it look “cool”, happy hardcore, rap and dizzee rascal playing just completes the chav car look and feel.
The schools in the area are failing quite miserably because of the scum of the universe, shitholes such as Grove and Hillcrest being the two worst schools in the South East, with Hillcrest having a long rivalry with the blazer wearing William Parker students, most likely through jealousy that most students parents at Parker actaully own their house.
Pikey’s from nearby Robertsbridge sometimes come down and start fights with innocent people and the victims cannot do anything about it because the pikey’s will just get the rest of their family out of the caravan and stab that person up.
Hastings, the place everyone wants to live…i mean avoid!
Hastings has a terrible rate of unemployment, and there is minimal support for ethnic groups who reside in the town. This, in the most part, is not actually the fault of the residents but of government policy. If a minority group is to be accepted into a society they need to be able to work, socialize and raise their children with the majority. Unfortunately certain government policies don’t allow this. There are areas of Hastings that are populated almost solely by immigrants and asylum seekers, and in these areas there is a large amount of violence and crime. This is not because of the nationality or the ethnicity of the people involved, but because poverty, social exclusion and a lack of options causes extreme tensions amongst social groups. A popular assumption of asylum seekers nationally is that they are lazy, and this is certainly the assumption in Hastings. Of course this is complete nonsense, but by not having the correct structures in place to educate local people to the constraints on asylum seekers and the lack of working visas available to them, then tensions are bound to grow.
Ultimately Hastings is improving, It is economically weaker than any other seaside town in Sussex and so progress will be slow, but it is happening. The art and music scenes in Hastings are superb and many nationally acclaimed folk musicians, such as Barry Dransfield and John Martyn, live and work around the town. It is very easy for people to feel empowered because they left and have returned to see Hastings still struggling. Some of us though are in it for the long haul and feel proud at how far we have come.
I live in Hastings !! its not as bad as people think it is just certain area’s you just don’t go to. Hastings is a really nice seaside town and has some really good places to go see and grab a bite to eat , music scene has got alot better in the past 2 years too. I agree with a previous comment about the Malvern way and Hollington lot People will steal your bikes if left outside , come and start fights and pick on people just cause they looked at them. its people like theses who give hastings a bad name its all the people who just live off benifits and dont do anything with there lives. i can understand people being on benefits if they cant find work , but i know so many people who have turned down a part time job because they get “PAYED” better on benifits its the scum like theses that dont deserve to live!!
I refuse to say anything until I see a soliciter……….I no my rights.
On holiday from Hackney visiting friends who have just moved to St.Leonard’s. First night we were here saw a really bad fight between two middle aged drunken skinheads. Hastings and St.Leonard’s are two really beautiful places, in need of a bit of TLC, but where isn’t? Got to say though the people are on the most part total fuckwits who wouldn’t last five minutes where I come from. Been here three days now, have seen three people screaming and swearing at their children in the street, dog shit is everywhere, and the people are the most depressed lot I have ever seen. People stare at you if they don’t know you, the pubs here are unfriendly and I have never seen so many alkies, junkies, obese mums and facial tattoos in my life. There are obviously some residents who are trying their best with small businesses and art galleries. My message to them is: Don’t bother, the place is dead, like the people.
Yes sounds very nasty, back home I live in the grotto, things very bad there to,I come to England to get away from the grottos. And I thought I would be safe here, but that seems to be not the case.I was beaten up badly here in town last Christmas,by a drunken Father Christmas and his two helpers, they beat me blue and black all over till I woke up in hospital.I cry, I cry to lovely nurse lady, why does Father Christmass beat me up?I say I have done nothing to him,why does he follow me all the way from the grotto back in Nigeria?why oh why nice lady?
At least Hastings feels like a proper seaside town.. not all screw and spew with pretentions like Brighton – admitedly the town centre and mall area are awful – but the eagle owl that comes to scare the pigeons is very cool.
Old town, Bohemia park, the walk to Bexhill, crafts shops and Norman Road all bring some dumbo free zones.
In fact, if the town centre is a 80′s development pray that the council will not get any more silly ideas about revamps.
My friends auntie who was a social worker in the 70′s said that all the problem families were housed in Hastings from London..
I did have some teentikes leering at me on the hill top and was very glad to see some surgical shod pensioner appear to save me from abuse.
I live in Hastings and yes it is infested with chavs and other filthy breeding scum. But don’t write Hastings off totally. We are trying to get this problem sorted. Some parts off the town are worse then others. The centre unfortunately is now a virtual no go area but outlying areas do still have some small pockets that are chav free, or rather the numbers are small enough that they can be fended off with harsh language. The main problem in Hastings is the mobile chav. However this can be sorted easily. Banning part worn tyre sales would keep the little bastards off the road as they rely on these to keep their shitbox nova’s on the highway…..
I’ve got to say, when I moved to Brighton & went to visit my brother in Hastings, I was shocked. Like most people, I thought of Hastings as a historical little seaside town, genteel, quiet, full of retired academics probably, I thought.
Jesus, how wrong was I? The place was falling down, a group of arsehole teenagers threw a stone at the car as we drove past, the shops were tatty & boarded up…daft as he is, even my *dad* could spot the drug dealers on the street. The standard 14 year old mums with masses of Creole ear-rings, wearing pink or blue velour track suits weren’t a big shock (being a Bradford lass myself) & neither was the preponderance of Scottish piss-head tramps but the overall atmosphere was. I’d heard that some places use blue lights in their toilets so junkies can’t see their veins to shoot up but I’d never seen it until I went to Hastings train station.
As an ex-Hastings-ite, I have to say, the place is terrible.
(Former WSL, then Grove pupil)
But this can only be seen by someone who has lived there, then lived elsewhere – and I live in SE London now… so not exactly a huge step up!
Walking through Woolwich, Charlton, Greenwich and Eltham, most are ghetto without a doubt, but there is at least a vibe about the place. In the day time at least!
Hastings does not even feel that great during the day.
It is a shame that the town has fallen in to this state, but being from Hastings we only have ourselves to blame. Too much of a culture of turning a blind eye has created a shit-heap.
Does anyone remember when the architectural talking point was that then “new” public toilets near Warrior Square??
To me that speaks volumes!
I love Hastings, as it is my home, but at risk of sounding condescending, I think I have outgrown it. But that is life as times change and people change.
A few points to make here…
- hastings, note the capital H, as Hastings in a name of a town and thus requires a capital at all times. The same to be sad about Hollington.
- ppl, is a music licensing company, so why you would address them in a comment about your beloved Hastings, is a mystery.
- on sweet, I can only assume, you mean en-suite. It’s French, Mon Chére.
A note on the “ppl” – Perhaps you were thinking of asking them to do the licensing for “Jeremy Kyle, The Musical”?
well I was educated in at the former Hastings High School for Girls now Helenswood School. I left Hastings as soon as I could…..30 years ago & it was the best decision I have ever made. I return periodically to visit friends & family, but am overcome with despondency everytime I see the town & it’s chavvy population. Now not all Hastings peeps are chavs. Infact there are some real smart people here, & a real Bohemian vibe still exists in some quarters. However, my overiding desire when visiting the town, is to get out asap & take all my friends & family with me! The best thing is the ‘sea air’ infact that is the only positive thing I have to say about the dump. The music scene years ago was good, but has died a death. The council need to heavily invest in improving the town & looking at it’s history, great but deteriorating architecture & REBUILD THE PIER!!!!!!!!
It is never going to be another Brighton. Indeed, do we need another Brighton? However, it could be a darn sight better than the shithole it has become. The surrounding areas are stunning. Hastings could be too.
The population need to get behind the town & believe in it, but when the majority of the population are chavs or just simply pig ignorant, then sadly Hastings will continue to fall more & more into decline.
I live in Surrey….nuff said!
I was born and bred in Hastings, and I’m happy to say that I still reside there now.
I love the town and could easily go into a long defence against all the points that you make in the blog, as most of what you say is a load of crap.
However, I won’t, instead I’d like to point out that with your writing skills you shouldn’t even be writing a blog. You clearly don’t have a very good understanding of the English language and by the looks of some the basic errors you have made, I can only conclude that you must still be at Primary school.
Let’s start with the first obvious one – Now, unless you’re American (which, if you are, you really need to take at the many backward towns and cities and their wrongs before you look at ours), centre is spelt with an ‘re’ at the end.
Secondly…”Where did they all suddenly come from Farley Skank, Malvern Way and Hollington all of which should be demolished and replaced by something that actually benefits the town”. You really need some punctuation in this sentence, as without it, it clearly makes no sense at all.
With this sentence – “Walk around the skank, ore and Hollington and you should see plenty of 15 year old mothers pushing their prams around, wearing her pink tracksuit with hooped earrings that has the same diameter as the moon” – the cock ups here are f**king hilarious. You’ve gone from describing “single mothers” (plural), to “wearing her pink tracksuit” (singular). So make your mind up mate, are you talking about one single mother or single mothers in general, you’re confused!
Also, “hooped earrings has the same diameter as the moon”…are you about 7 years old or something? Anyone with half a brain knows that you need to use the word ‘have’ not ‘has’ in this instance.
I could go on but I’ve got work to do. Good luck with your English lessons.
I was born in Hastings, 50 years ago. I can honestly say that this place today is a HUGE mess. I don’t actually blame the resident’s, it seems mainly of a white population and few have work. I think that just maybe we should look at Government policy that seems to have marginalised some ethnicities, positive discrimination in favour of comes to mind. Sorry, but I see this place like a refuge for the white British of London. Great shame!
Well i agree with Dave Smith and as for this “sidley crew” concept most of the people who live in Hastings, Bexhill, Eastbourne, Little Common, Pebsham, and well what ever the place is around here are complete wimps. They all go around in groups because inside they are as they like to say “pussyoles” and cant fight battles on their own. They need to grow up, get an education, stop the teenage pregnancy and use a condom on their tiny penises. They are all chlamydia infected pikey’s with no aspiration and no prospects to look forward to in life. With this i conclude that anyone who would like to try their hand at me can have a go if they don’t like this comment because tbh i don’t give two shits whether you do or not and if you think im some old fagot who doesn’t know what he is talking about im a 19 year old student who lives in pebsham and i don’t care who reads this because un-like you illiterate pieces of shit i do have aspirations and a will to succeed so f**k you all. =] Goodbye.
This is out date and Hastings gets a lot of negative press but if people think Hastings is this rough then frankly i’m feeling a bit brighter about the world! If you look past the scumbags it is a really pretty town, beautiful old buildings. The council just needs to scub it up, give it a lick of paint and get rid of the nasty shops like sports direct and kfc… but then again residents are protesting against a new Art gallery! Yes really, could anyone be more ignorant to want a carpark over culture…
Bit out dated: Im not even sure dontdishastings went to school let alone Parker! “on sweets” made me lol in real life. He DOES have a point though. People do put Hastings down more than is fair, its not a total shiz hole, just a little one. Its not until you live somewhere else (Cheltenham for me), that you realize how scummy Hastings is. I lived there for over 22 years. Chavs are a problem in the UK in general. Hastings as a town is a nice place, too bad about the people.
I”ve always thought that Hastings contains 30, 000 good people and 30, 000 shitbags. The best solution was to clearly throw the 30,000 shitbags off the pier into the sea. Unfortunely the pier has now closed so this is no lo longer possible. Perhaps the council should shut down the benefits offices, the housing dept, the cheap booze shops, Yates, TK Maxx, Lidls, Peacocks, ESK, Macdonalds, Burger King etc and starve these awful people to death. However this could take some time while they live of their fat reserves !
And what is it with these fat Hastings birds and their skinny fellas ???
Credit where it’s due Jim… less than a month after your comment about throwing the Chavs off the pier, two of them burned it down just to make sure it didn’t re-open, proving that the Chavs have a strong survival instinct.
Every time I’ve been in Hastings it’s felt like I’ve been on the set for “Escape from New York”. Enough said…
Accidentally pressed submit there..
By outdated, I mean no one drives Vauxhall Novas anymore :L
Well, dontdishastings is certainly highly educated. Parker he went to then?
I went to The Grove, and at least they teach you how to structure a sentence. :L
Hollington doesn’t have any decent parts at all.
Although, Hastings is awful I would never live there, it’s worse than where I live, and I’ve lived in Sidley for the past 10 years.. I spend most of my time in Hastings because that’s where my friends are yet this may be shocking, they are not chavs. But it’s always a relief when I get home it’s so much cleaner where I live than in Hastings.
I’d love to see you go to one of the real hardcore ghettos, you wouldn’t survive!.. I live in Hastings, it’s not great, but there’s certainly worst places to live! You just gotta be smart about what you do.
This unfortunate piece of drivel has obviously been written by someone who knows next to nothing about the town where I have lived peacefully for the last 11 years. It’s not so much that Hastings is infested with Chavs – it’s more like the internet is infested with people who seriously need to avail themselves of a decent education.
