Hereford. It’s a cathedral city on the Welsh border. It has a lot of history and the most beautiful countryside in England. Those are it’s good points.
Sadly, nothing much has changed since 1597. Herefordians are extremely narrow minded and prejudiced. Hereford saps ambition. It is the only city in the uk without a bypass, hence it takes an hour to travel two miles by car at peak times. But what makes it into the shithole that it has become in the last few years, is due to the influx of benefit claiming scum and the rise of the chav. Visiting high town on a weekday is like some fat, badly dressed freakshow. All the women slappers have the council house facelift hairstyle(ha!), and they always go around in groups of two or three, blocking everything up with their double pushchairs. The ringroad and Broad streeet have become a racetrack for the boy racers in their chavved-up shitbox hatchbacks. And as for nightlife? Pond life more like! Hereford has to be experienced to be believed. No amount of creative writing can paint the true picture of this rural haven for inbred bumpkins and council estate pikey chav filth! A one Megaton nuclear bomb airburst over Newton Farm might just clean up this toilet.
Lets have a think….. If you say Hereford is narrow minded why are you all being the same? I am Herefordian with a good education and 2 jobs(May add they are decent jobs in ICT), me and my family work hard and have good friends in Hereford. You are just steriotyping the minority you see when the good residents of Hereford are working hard “behind the scenes”

Let’s think, if you have the limited level of intelligence you claim to have, you may of noticed through reading the heading that this is about Britain’s WORST towns. What did you and your abundant naivety expect? A Judith Charmers expose on the merits of an airport style post office to cash giro’s? Your own, vain attempts at justifying your pitiful existence prove’s counter-productive. You maintain a job? what do you want, a medal? you owe it to yourself to have a job so well done for having an ounce of self respect. Having two jobs does not prove your point, it proves ours as it’s symptomatic of Herefordshire’s failing employment, second only to that of Cornwall. People either grow up here or retire here. People come and go in-between, but when Hereford’s biggest growth area of employment is caring for the elderly masses, prove me wrong. And why would the proud working class masses lurk ‘behind the scenes’? Have they just given up? are they ashamed? I would be.
I think we are fully aware that everywhere has it’s share of problems, but the point is that some are worse than others, and I am afraid that Hereford falls into that category. Do you know what really bothers me, it’s people like you. People that claim to be proud, have a lifestyle that can afford them more social political influence than the mindless masses, but fail to do anything. Just look at your council, they must be one of the most corrupt and self serving in the country! Why because of people like you. I would suggest that it’s your ignorance and complacency that is the most corrosive underbelly of this festering abomination
I run a small shop here,and Im half Pakistani half Japanese and from day one Ive been racialy abused by not only small children shouting things like you slant eyed paki bastard etc but by adults who think its funny to fire air guns through my letter box at my wife while she is sitting on the toilet.The police dont care either,I think this is becouse my wife is half Jewish and half Eskimo and they think they can push us around,like were not real people at all who have feelings the same as anyone else.My wife is now scared to use our toilet even thow I have nailed the letterbox up and we collect our post from the post office sorting office,another inconviance.most of the mail we get is hate mail,racial hatemail and comments about “my big fat bitch of a wife” She 27 stone and has a gland problem,shes in bits about all this,and her nose,her nose is bigger than normal peoples noses as she was born with three noses,and had surgery in India to have it made into one small nose,the surgery went wrong and she ended up coming back to England to have it corrected,we run out of money to pay the surgeon so she was left with a half finished nose.We cant take anymore abuse,please please if your one of the people who think its fun to throw eggs at us,or bricks through our windows please stop,for god sakes leave us be.We thought england would be a good place a fair place to live and work,to open our little shop,please all Im asking is for people to stop laughing at my wifes nose,and my limp.

I concur with many of the negative comments made on this site about Hereford. I was forced to move back here after finding myself short of money after finishing uni. I am lucky that I have a small amount of friends here but frankly I remember why I hated this town in the first place. I see people ‘out on the pull’ and despair. There are so many people that just look the same in their tacky shirts and boring dress sense.
I do believe the county has some of the best countryside in the entire country but I just find so many of the people to be shut off and in need of maybe growing up. The fact that certain residents even say they resent being called ‘Herefordian’ is another thing to observe. I also, like one of the other posts here, went to uni to get away from this city. I found it suffocating and was happy to get away and was a changed man at the end of it all because I got away from my comfort zone. Trouble is Hereford is making me revert back to almost how I was and I am dissapointed that I was not able to move on. I just find this town so depressing beyond words. I was happy to be back in the holidays from uni but then I suppose I was aware that I had the prospect of going away again fairly soon.
I do have ambitions of going into healthcare myself so getting a job in that area, and there being a fair amount of them here, is perfect in that respect because it means I can get the appropriate experience and qualifications to then find a job in another city and get the f**k out. Also it is true getting a job here, even as a cleaner, is really quite difficult. Coming back here after having earned a university degree is frankly one massive anti-climax and I have one major ambition: LEAVE!
Its a great place to meet people,Im a christian and my house is a open house,it has no front door,and I wellcome everyone in for a cup of tea or a chat,regardless of race creed colour.Idont care who or what anyones done.Im not a materialistic person espeically now that all my things have been stolen.
I have to say, this article is perfectly accurate. I lived in HerefordSHIRE (note – not the city, but close enough) all my life until I was 18 and able to move away to Uni. I hated the place and was so happy to leave I could not begin to explain. I have come back for a year and had assumed my previous hatred wouldn’t be as intense as before…I was wrong, the town is even more disgusting than it was before. Herefordians truly are the most narrow-minded people I have ever met. Their prejudices are straight out of the ’50s, their accents some horrible hybrid between Somerset and Wales which makes them sound brainless and infantile, and if you attempt individualism, betterment, an education beyond that of a carer, or if you have any interests beyond visiting Play nightclub and talking severely inflected “oo-er” nonsense, you will definitely be scorned and shot down by a veritable lynch mob. There are a few decent people in this actually quite pretty town (and the countryside really is amazing), but most people are, simply, terrible. P.S. Another town in Herefordshire, Leominster, which could be thought of as Hereford’s even more hideous little sister, installed a new town clock about four years ago, and is the pride and unofficial logo of the town. The main draw of the clock is a gold-plated ducking stool. Infer what you will.

So it’s your informed opinion that, whilst Newton Farm is bad, it’s the dreaded ‘outsiders’ that make Hereford worse? Like what exactly? The Footballers who contribute to the much loved Bulls? the soldiers who bravely contribute to national security? And how about some of the biggest employers in the county being foreign owned? may be they should take their business interests elsewhere, and stop making this town a shambles with it’s ‘employment’ nonsense.

Pretty much a typical description of most places throughout the UK as regards the people and what you see in the town centres across the UK. Only thing I agree with is the by pass issue, no surprise there then… Where in the UK is the author of the report from ?? Must be outside the UK surely???

It’s full of people imitating what they see on the television and wanting to fit into the trends. You go out to the utmost famous club Play and experience everyone wearing the same clothes. With the local fire burning down River Island, Jingo has now become the hotspot for clothing for men. As for women we see the same girls wearing the same clothes week in and out and its a turn off. The night life is woeful at that you see fighting all the time.
A lot of the fighting is from Hereford being a close knit community where people want to be local celebrities, with the use of facebook it breeds greed. People feel the urge to create social boundaries and feel they’re better than others. Thus sparking debates/fights at any chance, you see people fighting over you poked my girlfriend on facebook as an example.

Hereford has certainly lost any charm it may of once had. There are many in the town that are ignorant, rude and narrow minded and it’s true that it has more than it’s fair share of ‘chavs’. It’s not fair to suggest that this is reflective of any other similar town because this simply isn’t true. The rather high number of un-educated continue to breed offspring into a culture of benefits whilst they themselves are barely fit to speak English, let alone raise children. They bemoan and belittle outsiders who in general, contribute more both the local society and economy then several generations of their own ever have, or ever will. There was even one instance of a local dive bar/club owner championing himself as political candidate, and expressing the need for a proper University in Hereford. How typically ignorant and arrogant. What’s the point in another failed education (Hereford College of Art and Design) institute when all the employment the county has to offer is working in a care home. ‘Build it and they will come’….what a fool he is. Or is he? funny how the very demographic he see’s as the future is the very demographic that line his own pockets……..

Having just moved out of Hereford after living there for 15 years let me tell you its a shit Hell Hole. Moving here from Leeds to complet my Degree, i was dupped my a local girl, who had got pregnant by me only telling me 4 months after preganacy, then another awful experience with ex who has a family spead over every corner of this turd place. The place is pleasing to the eye but let down by the inbreds living there, no manners and are the rudest people walking the planet. On top of that for 6 months of the year it smells of rotting chicken carcasess… Stay away from the place for yopue own sake!!!!!!!!!!!

I completely agree with this article! Hereford is the worst place I have ever lived. I lived there for 10 years and took my first oppurtunity to escape. Everyone lives within walking distance to every other member of their family….. I am suprised they aren’t even more inbred than they are. Saying that, pretty much everyone is somehow related to everyone else.

I have lived here for 2 years and can’t wait to get out of this shithole, it’s by far the worst place that I have lived, and yes the people are extremely narrow minded I go beating on a local estate and most of the people there just chat shite non stop. There are countless chavs roaming the streets and inbreds everywhere you look, most of the suburbs are dumps including: hinton, newton farm, belmont, whitecross, aylestone hill they’re all crap places,!!

im from the north of england but lived in hereford for nearly 20 years..and it aint nothing like what some people on this site are saying..hereford has its problems and chavs like nearly every town and city in the uk..but on a whole it is a lovely place and iv made many good friends there..most of the hereford folk are decent hard working people..yeah..hereford is ok..not a bad place atall..and brews the best cider in the country..
Fortunately a lot of East Europeans have moved into the area lately. This has improved the average IQ a lot and means that some work actually gets done now.
i still love hereford! im a mum of 4 but my hubby works and has done from befor we had are children! and we are not f**king inbreds! yes newtonfarm is a bit of a shithole but a lot of the problems with hereford has been from people coming from other place’s and moving in making it far worse than it would be if they hadnt came in the first place! they should of stayed where they were!
