Newcastle Upon Tyne

A lot of people say newcastle is “the best city” in Northern England, a city of “culture” and “nightlife” and most geordies like to mock the nearby city of sunderland as a chav filled shithole. What they feel to relise is that Newcastle and the tyneside region is no different, if not worse.

In the city center, the chav concentration of Newcastle can be seen sitting on the steps of Eldon Square smoking away and basically just being a nuisance, or hanging around in groups in the grainger market dressed in their nonsense burbery, tracksuits, etc. If you venture outside of the city into the hideous areas of Benwell, Scottswood, Byker etc or the west end you can find them circled around some of the boarded up buildings drinking or sitting on some estate wall, or maybe shagging in bushes. The city has a fairly high crime rate, and murders and people being beat up in the town center is farly common, one foreign man came to the city for the first time and claimed “I had my ear bitten off, now I am never comin. Normally what lurks in newcastle though only comes out at night, so visit at day and get away before 6pm!

However I won’t just circle newcastle out as some “chav” place in the northeast, as the areas around, Gateshead, South Tyneside, North Tyneside, Sunderland, and all those filthy villages in Durham such as Wingate, Easington, and Horden all have very high teenage pregnancy rates and generally are 99.9% chav, in ways newcastle just somes up the northeast.

NEVER DISRESPECT NEWCASTLE! the vast majority of people from the area are hard working genuine people! dont let the minority ruin it for the majority!!!!!! xxx

All towns/cities in England are “chav towns”…It’s just the degree of chavness that varies.
Born in the NE, I’ve lived in Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and now London. What is apparent is that the “Chav” is a countrywide phenonomen so the argument is, is Newcastle more Chav ridden than most? My experience is NO! Smaller Market towns tend to be the worst. Probably due to the availability of cheap housing, no facilities, and no work.
Using examples of people getting stabbed/robbed/mugged is pointless as one off examples. If you refer to statistics per capita of a local population then you will find some very random centres of crime, mostly in the London area, but Nottingham and some NW suburbs included.
So the original author chose to attack the Geordie mindset rather than their Chavness. We Geordies get this alot. Outsiders can’t understand that it is a cultural thing based on a feeling of likeness and community. Very few cities have this and it can produce a jealous reaction from those that cannot understand or find that spirit.
P.S. Before anyone comments on the fact that I don’t live there, my military service takes me away.

haha. Some places are bad, like everywhere! But I live in Jesmond… with all the private schools and rich, posh people in their big houses (not all of them, just saying there are a lot of people like that…). There are chavs in Newcastle but not everywhere.

Love how people slate it for probably no reason, every place in the UK has charvs kicking about somewhere. As for a comment I read here somewhere saying they saw 3 stabbings and a shooting the next day? Where the hell have you been? Lived in Newcastle my whole life and never seen anything as bad as that unless you’re referring to the Raoul Moat incident? As for most racist place? Please Newcastle is actually one of the most friendly places, I genuinely believe it is too. So many people like to think they are better than someone else, when in fact you’re probably someone thriving for social success yourself. To be accepted by the general public for being ‘mediocre’. When really you mean nothing, just like me and everyone else. Get off your high horses’ people and realise almost everywhere in the UK is probably as bad as each other. Oh and again referring back to that comment about the stabbings and shootings. Doesn’t London have the highest Gang shootings/stabbings in the country? Newcastle is a city that is proud of itself and its people. I’d rather feel part of a community thankyou rather than lose sight of the real world as you’ve probably lost your head up your own a***.

It’s funny, how you describe how uneducated and below lower class people typically from the North-East are, however before posting such an article you should check for typing errors and spelling mistakes.
“feel to relise” is this supposed to be fail to realise?
“center is farly” Centre is fairly…
Point? It’s like a ‘kettle calling a frying pan’, if you can’t write an article which is checked through for mistakes then you can’t call all of these ‘uneducated’ chavs. Which by the way is known as ‘Charvas’ where I come from.
Also obscene language brings you down to the same level as those within the ‘ chav concentration’.

Look, honestly i haven’t actually read all the comments made but i just wanted to be the first to say, that you’s are all just criticising cunts.
Newcastle isnt perfect, its not even great, but honestly where is?!
Yes these days even i can’t stand the new generations of people and the untastful culture they have created, however i am a part of it, being young my self. But you all are going on like all kilds or even all the people in the North East are nothing but trash. And that isnt true. I happen to be a 17 year old girl, and just to get it out there, no, i’m not a young mother or anything bad. i happened to come across this site whilst a work and to be honest i found the comments to be quite pathetic. you are all making it out like there are too types of people, you lot (the snobs) and the “Chavs”. where as i see my self as niether, people live like “Chavs” not by choice but due to circumstances, i have came close myself. and if you want to be a person that thinks you are better in comparison to others than fine, be like that but you loose out and you prove that you are the worser people. i think you should all stop judging the place that happens to be my home town, and believe it or not wherever i go, i will and have always called Newcastle and the North East as my home and i’m proud of it. all i no is i live right in the centre of all the shit, yet i came out bloody shining. so take your head out your arses and see that people dont chose to live bad lives. and maybe you should be more concerned with your own.

I grew up on Tyneside and left at the first opportunity, never to return. Pretty much anywhere else is guaranteed to be better. Everytime I go back I’m raring to leave after 20 minutes. Just changing trains is enough to spoil a good day.

All of that crap about being proud to be a Georide wears very thin. It reeks of inadequacy and trying to hard. In fact the only other place with such a chip about having no status in the wider world is Liverpool. It’s a textbook reaction formation – emasculated men with no prospects and nothing much to offer a world that has moved on without them slapping each other on the back and declaring their greatness. After a while you even stop feeling embarrassed on their part and just marvel at how badly they need to have some external validation to prop them up as they appear to have no self-respect of their own to carry around. So… they do what losers do. Pin their own worth on the local football team. Reflected glory is the best they can hope for. They don’t see how undignified this is though, as they’re so invested in their tribalism, pulling together against invented enemies, like Sunderland. Thing is – Sunderland and Newcaslte are the same urban connurbation. How stupid to idealise yourself and denigrate something identical round the corner. Shows how small the world is to many people on Tyneside. They havent got what it takes to make it anywhere real so turn inwards and feed on themselves.

Geordies love to fancy themselves persecuted by soft southern types in London and lay on the working class hero stuff with a trowel. What they fail to realise is that nobody south of Durham or north of Jedburgh ever gave them a thought and they have working class people everywhere – the midlands, the south, Scotland – but only northern working class people are legit somehow.

Self-righteous, inordinately proud but with precious little evidence of anything to be smug over and offically the most racist place in the UK.

Everyone with get up and go has got up and gone and it’s just the plonkers left over milling around taking lumps out of each other and indoctrinating their brats into worshiping the Toon, in place of having anything actually worth caring about. The place had it’s guts ripped out by Thatcher – true enough but you can’t stand in the path of economics. Opportunity upped and left and the dregs remained.

Newcastle, the only place I’ve seen three people stabbed in one evening, in three unrelated fights – in one street. Where someone was shot the next day.

I’d sooner be a posh twat in Bath or Maida Vale. When a Geordie is proudly declaring anyone else a posh twat, or a snob they never question what this says about themselves – i.e. they’re at the foot of the ladder looking up. Literally everyone else is above them. I had a mate at school whose parents forced him to leave school after GCSE even though he wanted to take 3 a-levels – on the grounds that he was getting ideas above his station. They were offended that he didnt want their life. Well hes got it now and been unemployed for the last 7 years. Smart kid and in London he’d walk into decent work witout any effort if he’d just finished school. But he was being groomed for the shipyard that isnt there.

I lived in the “west end” in a small village Lemington which was picturesque on the edge towards Newburn, near country pubs right on the tyne and near parks/walks with fields of horses. A sense of community and could hear a pin drop at nights. The city centre was clean and buzzing and full of good ranges of quality food. The people were not so friendly however as many people made them out to be, i found the quite sulky and un approachable but they did no harm. I actually miss the place and never ever felt an outsider there i only had to elave due to my young daugher (3) being homesick.

I am at uni in Newcastle and I cant wait to leave. I love the geordies but the city is so small and boring. “Party city” my bloody arse! Only if you’re on a stag or hen party. So disappointed. I came from Liverpool (amazing nightlife) to this! Tiger Tiger – ERGH! The suburbs are either rough or mediocre. Theres like two that are nice which are Jesmond and Gosforth. The uni also attracts all the southern snobby c*unts which is annoying. However, as I said I have love for geordies but not the city.

I totally agree though i do live in walker which is probably one of the worst places to live in newcastle. I am not a chav, i actually isolate myself now from the area i live in. Iv lived here for 10years and formly lived in gateshead, when we moved in to walker we where welcome by bricks and what not i myself was forced out of school, iv also been ganged up on and got beat up by a few little whores just for the fact i said i didnt want to take drugs with them. And tbh when they asked i didnt even know who they where i was just walking back home, the attack actually took place outside my home! Growing up in walker forces you to either get with the chavs or stay in the house all the time! I myself always looked forward to college and uni but very much doubted that id make it, turns out i did! And soon i am going to have a job paying top rate if that isnt a middle finger to walker chavs i dont know what is… But there are still nice people in walker just happens they are the ones normally under attack so they go unnoticed, and are offered very little help and support. sometimes iv just felt like going outside and dealing with the chavs myself, just shows once i actually got jumped on and i fought back… Guess what? They called the police on me even though i was just minding my business! Typical, iv also been kicked and punched by a lad in my street for no reason, so i smacked him back, guess what? His mommy called the police, on me and shouted insults at me … Never mind the guy was older to. Just shows how utterly retarded they are!
