Bransholme is not strictly a town in its own right, it is a suburb of Hull. It is also the largest council housing estate in Europe, need I say more! The best way to go there (who would want to go there in the first place?) is on the number 30 bus – no self respecting person would take their own vehicle – they remove the parts while you are still driving it! Depart the bus at Branny Senna (Bransholme Centre – a shopping mall – more about this later!) and the first thing you hear is some ten ton, blubbery, single, ugly as sin, teenage mum shouting at the top of its voice (or is this normal for a Branny Chav?) at a snotty nosed kid as it runs away, “Ged ‘ere now, you fooking little bastard”, well that is really going to give the little bastard a complex – it is bad enough actually being a bastard without broadcasting it to all and sundry! Then as you take your life in your hands and enter Senna, you are confronted by a smoke screan of fag smoke – they can’t read so they don’t know about the no smoking laws in all public buildings – and then lurching out of the mist are the local neanderthal male’s, clad in shell suits, baseball hats and nicked bling, gormless looks on their faces and grunting to each other – the strange thing is they seem to understand each other! Having had enough of this – and not being able to breath I re-trace my steps to the bus, by this time the ten ton blubber has attracted males trying it on. “Fancy a fook, darl?”, they grunt, “Fook off,” is the response. The bus arrives, the doors open and I jump on, the driver hits the gas and gets me out of there as quickly as possible. If this is what Bransholme is like, I daren’t venture to North Bransholme, it’s bound to be worse.
I dated a girl who moved to Bransholme from Gosport. I thought Gosport was chavtastic but compared to Bransholme its like Cobham.

I personally thought Bransholme was rather nice in comparison to Preston Road or Orchard Park, anyone agree? I worked on the estates of Hull for a year, and never got any bother in Bransholme. But on Orchard Park I was threatened several times, had my tools stolen, had to work around ‘smack heads’ who refused to help you in anyway, and thought it was their god given right to have a council house and free money.
There are much worse places in the country, you ever hear of anyone getting shot in Hull? Happens everyday in London, Nottingham and Brimingham.
i lived on bransholme for many years while bringing up my children, and it holds many memories for me and my family.
i recently came to north bransholme for a day visit and was shocked to find most of the houses have been demolished, and many more waiting to be demolished. those housing were only built in 1979. can’t understand why they have been knocked down.

I am from Bransholme, I was born and raised there and left when I was sixteen to go to college. After getting my A levels I returned due to the death of my father, and again lived on Bransholme. I am currently a university student and will do my finals this year, graduating in July 2010. The point of me explaining this to you is quite simple. I attended Winifred Holtby School where I sat my GCSE’s and got one A*, four A’s, one B, three C’s and two D’s. The standard of teaching I recieved while I was there allowed me to progress through education to where I now find myself. Furthermore, I am not a single mother.
If you do your research you will find that Bransholme was built to provide homes for the overflow of families who were supported by a once thriving fishing industry which dwindled after the ‘Cod War’ as only 24 vessels were allowed to fish the designated naughtical miles of sea. This caused a huge mass of unemployment, many of the seamen never to find sustainable work thereafter. As a result, Bransholme was an area of poverty and has remained that way since, due to a lack of government funding, which might I add has been spent on a giant TV for the city centre instead (what a bloody waste).
We are not all skint, illiterate, inbreds with tribes of fatherless kids, some of us do want to achieve more than a life of benefits. Maybe you should consider that before tying us all up with the same brush!
I have lived on Bransholme for ten years now, and can’t wait to get out of this shit hole. So far I have had my car stolen five times, fishing gear stolen, a bike stolen, parts taken off my car, my Dog was stolen and to top it all off a bunch of dirty smackheads living nearby. When you go to the centre don’t waste your time looking for anything out of the ordinary because you won’t find it. I asked for Coriander and the woman thought i was from Mars. And in reply to Tina, I was a Teacher, and have taught at all the schools in Bransholme. The standards of literacy are abysmal, and most of the people I have met have been nothing more than semi-educated peasants. If I could offer a suggestion ‘Scrape Bransholme into the Humber so it can float out to Sea with all the other turds’.
