It has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe. There are groups of chavs amongst chavs. The Wellgate Shopping centre is packed full of Chavs, and there is a three level Donnay Sports shop in the Overgate where Chavs can get a full outfit for under £20 (or even better for them, nick it). I am 26 and f**king love where I am from, I have tried London, Glasgow and Edinburgh and none of the compare to my home town, yeah it does have its fair share of down and outs as does any other city everything is as you make it and if that is all the potential that you can see then you clearly need to get out of what ever shit hole dives you go and explore your city a little more, there is more to Dundee than the shit hole pubs like Lloyds and All Stars…and again if this is all that you can see around you then it doesn’t really say much about you being in these places now does it. lol lol.i was born in dundee,lived there for many yrs,until i jumped ship to Edinburgh,(it has it fair share of jakeys,junkies,pregnant teens and unsavoury characters too)so has every city in Scotland,u cant just tar Dundee with the scum brush,there are many cities with the same problems,there are areas in in Edinburgh where buses stop running early for fear of the driver being attacked (by kids) and i have to say that ur shopping cntrs (the wellgate n overgate) put Edinburgh princes street to shame,yes Dundee might not be the best place in Scotland but i have met lots of decent hardworking folk there,liz x
Dundee is actually a very nice city for its size. The Overgate and city centre generally are really nice. You can’t expect a global world view and attitude in a city of 140K people. Dundee is not Berlin, London or Vienna so stop trying to compare it to capital cities which is pretty unfair. It is a nice little town with typical small town people who are a bit nosy but are generally harmless. If you look at other cities like Newport in Wales, or Scunthorpe, Oldham, Bradford etc (which are a similar size), Dundee punches FAR above its weight as far as amentities and culture are concerned.
Travel more and you will see Dundee (for it’s size) is pretty good.
But stop comparing it to Capital Cities which are in another league entirely….
