Having lived in this seemingly peaceful & quaint seaside town all my life it seems like a relaxing place to live. However, & obviously, there is another side to this story.
The Ramsgate tourist board pride itself on having a Royal Harbour. So. Who the f**k wants to see it? Essentially it’s just a just a place where boats park. Occasionally, ferries go to Oostende & Dunkirk. Who’s going on these ferries when there only a 20 minute drive & a channel tunnel journey away from Calais where the Utopia of cheap fags & booze awaits. It’s the only town in the World who’s appearance is made more attractive by an off shore windfarm, which to be honest, in most places are an eyesore & essentially just lampposts with the Mercedes logo spinning from them.
Now the town centre itself. I feel the best way to describe it, is imagine an Olympic Village. No the inhabitants aren’t at the peak of physical fitness, instead there are lots of people wearing tracksuits, who can barely speak English. Most of them have also perfected the Manchester monkey walk with their Doberman’s on a leach made out of a chain link fence stolen from a car park of a furniture store warehouse.
It is such a bad place to live now, that when the cannabis farms in the town were destroyed by the Police, it must have left a gaping hole in our local economy so deep it is beyond ever recovering. You will often see market stalls set up in the middle of the town centre which makes it impossible to cut a wide berth when you see someone coming up to you & trying to sell you stolen second hand goods at a largely inflated price, of which they refer to as a ‘pwopper bargain mate’. With the amount of different stuff on sale, from beach towels to alarm clocks, it is literally a convention for ‘Jack’s of all trades. Masters of f**k all’.
The only good thing about the town centre was Woolworths. It’s not there anymore. Infact the contributing factor to Woolworths going out of business was probably because the chavs of the town, which there are many, stole so much stuff they were running at a loss for the entire company nationwide.
The Newington Estate is a great example, of how the benefits system has failed the tax payers of Great Britain. It’s a good thing the Jeremy Kyle studio is in Manchester or they would just have people turning up from here all the time. I have frequently visited this estate & on a couple of occasions I’ve seen cars on fire in the street. I must say that not all people from here are scum, but the ones who are, are the worst type of scum. You know, the sort that never work or want to work, have children at 14, have their hair pulled back so much that a cheap alternative to Botox has been created, drop out of school relying on decent people to support their alcohol & drug problems. Yeah, that type of scum, who if you ask to go f**k themselves, they may give it a try.
The night life isn’t that great either, although there are many different nightclubs & pubs with most of them having free entry. I will use only one example to make my point. The Sovereign night club. Most nights, at least two lads will have a fight or an argument outside, where the rest of the public (including myself) just watch on as a sick form of entertainment, might aswell though, inside the music is rubbish, the TV’s just show Sky Sports News on it’s ever boring loop & no one can afford the drinks. Then when your leaving the clubs & maybe fancy a thing to eat, you may get assaulted in a kebab shop like I was once. This twat said he slipped on the carpet & bumped into me ‘by accident’ when instead he punched me in the back of the head & pushed me into the glass display where my elbow was cut, although the punch was pretty weak & he is probably a heroin junkie.
This town used to be good, as was Margate, in being popular seaside towns for many tourists but most of the people that have moved from suburbs in London have turned it into an urban wasteland. I am actually surprised that the suicide rate for this town isn’t higher than that at Beachy Head as it’s so morbidly a depressing place to live now. I’m not denying that some parts of it are good, i.e. most of the westcliff is pleasant, usually clean parks, good views of the sea (although some days you can clearly see France) & the beach, but now it is the only place in the world where a tuxedo & a shell suit are the considered the same thing.
I am recommending immediate evacuation from here for the decent citizens, maybe Canterbury & maybe further beyond. Then maybe the 10,000 artillery shells it deserves to have levelled at it will commence. To some up how rubbish it is here, there’s a verse about it in ‘The Thanet Anthem’, search it in YouTube & it will give an indication as to what I’m going on about.
My family and I moved to Ramsgate in July, we live over on the West Cliff , seem’s ok I guess, I am sure I will adore it when I’m a 100 years old. I have four Children, all of whom have only just got a School as there weren’t any places ( other than in the one that is on parr with a Loony Bin for deranged adolescents), we still have no GP or Dentist, but hey we have Seagull Proof Bags, that’s got to make the fact that my Kids will soon be speaking Polish whilst walking around with undiagnosed diseases they have caught from the Bacteria building up in their Teeth.
Last Month we noticed that Mr Bankrupts was having a closing down sale, we would have laughed but we were too busy staring at the fat Lady who wore Leggings with no knickers outside the 99pence Shop.
The Jury is still out for me, though I have to say, apart from the rising crime levels, Bird Shit, Knickerless Fat Lady Legging wearers, Fag Ends, shortage of Schools, Doctors, Dentists, Basic Hygeine, Corrupt Council, Litter ridden Sands, I feel quite Safe here.

I lived in Thanet all my life and its a shit hole! but I prefer Ramsgate and Birchington as the best seaside towns to go to. Ramsgate has a charm the seafront is lovely! the harbour looks lush and they have a nice waterfall at the back of Pizza Express. Westcliff is indeed lovely and the views are gorgeous. My friends from different parts of the UK keep coming back to Ramsgate you know why? because its a slower pace of life and they prefer it to the hustle and bustle of the city they love how quaint and lovely the place looks in the town and the harbour. In this write up I haven’t seen much in the way of bigging it up as such, everything is negative! yes Newington is a dive but then so is Millmead and Arlington House, I’d say that Margate is worse! their is sod all to do! Ramsgate has more about it. I think the good parts firmly outweigh the bad. It could be worse! you could live in Gillingham! I for one am proud of saying I love Ramsgate and I don’t care who knows. And this is coming from someone who can use language “properly” if you think Ramsgate should improve why don’t you do something about it instead of slagging it so much.
Ramsgate, oh Ramsgate…It’s not this beautiful town’s fault that it is overpopulated by ‘people’ who can barely string a sentence together. I wish that I could give eyes to these Neanderthal’s and make them see all the beauty in life, and to have respect, and love for others. I want them to be proud to be English, and all that this stands for, our cultural heritage, our ingenious nature, our lithe and agile minds. Libraries gave us power, you fools, and I am strictly, and deeply Working Class, so I talk with experience, and without being patronising…I have moved back from London, and I have met poets, actors, musicians, windfarm workers, smugglers, and most of all, characters – a lot of them based around the wonderful ‘Belgian Bar’ on the Harbour Front there…I KNOW the scumbags are out there, I feel them wallowing deep in the alluvium of their own shit, but I, and these others mentioned here, choose to ignore them, and carry on in our own ‘joie de vivre’, ordering the next round…I pity them. Really glad that you stated the majority of Newington, as I have lived in that estate since I was 9. I agree it can be a bad place. But in the last year or so it’s become so much more better. It’s had a lot of changes made to it and to be fair it’s even a lot better then Margate. Newington isn’t half as bad as it used to be and for once I am not ashamed to live there. How ever, I am ashamed to live in Ramsgate. Although a lot fo changes have also been made to the town I still think it could be made better. I agree with most of the comments made, although I do believe I’d rather live here there in some other places, not all people in this town are scum. I know a fair few that work their arses off and try their up most best to provide for their own families and so on. I have been on job seekers allowance before, I was not proud of myself for bveing on it, but in respect it is extremely hard to find a job around here, a lot of companies don’t have the respect to either give you a chance or get back to you on where or not you have the job, I spent month trying to find my self and job and I admit it was very very hard so in respect slating those that are on job seekers allowance isn’t fair. But I do agree with most of the comments that I have read on here, Ramsgate could be made a better town but nothing can be done about this due to the poeple that live here, although we aren’t all that bad.

Five years of Thanet – To sum it all up, Chav scum shithole full of chavs/chavettes whom lived up to everything I expected of them.
THIEVES – (whom will steal from their own mothers). High rate of burglaries. The chav scum like to target the elderly whom have valuable antiques they can sell on but will steal from anyone. Dont leave anything unattended in pubs/bars cafes etc.
DRUG ADDICTS – (Heroine and Coke is big, but everything and anything goes even horse tranquilizer). The little KFC down the high street in Margate is the first one I ever been to in this country where you will need to get coin from the counter in order to open the locked toilets because the druggie filth keep coming inside to inject themselves whilst families are trying to enjoy their meals.
BUMS AND SCROUNGERS ON THE DOLE – Well done to the chavs for making Thanet the Biggest Benefits Hotspot in the entire South East of England. It is the Thanet Chavs ‘Not the small local population of asylum seekers whom the racist and ignorant bastards like to blame’, its not their fault the government let them in and dumped them there and most do find low paid hard labour jobs which the chav scum would never do.
DRUNKS – Nothing for anyone to do except get drunk on cheap booze day and night. High number of Chavs/Chavettes are alcoholics whom will not admit to it.
WHORES AND SCUM – High number of slags that will open their legs to any chav scum day or night hence the high number of teenage pregnancies, fatherless scum and single mothers. I’m glad I stumbled upon this site. its made my night at work alot less boring (just shows how boring my job is) . so Ramsgate lol i’ve lived here for only a couple of years and dont really like it that much, but there is worse places to be and i always remind myself of that .
firstly the harbour is a Royal harbour? i wouldnt let a terrorist near it the marina itself is constantly full of rubbish like empty bottles, big mac boxes cigarette ends and the ocasional bottle of red. along with with the shite hawks trying to eat an empty chip box. the water is a very skanky green colour and although its probably only 4 feet deep ive never seen the bottom lol. i walked past a bloody leather sofa on my way to work a month maybe a little longer ago , it was facing the ‘the royal’ ill come to that later . then today in town i passed a god damn washjing machine . IN TOWN!!! really why do us decent folk have to put up with it .. Also i cant recall ever seeing or being in another town with as many second hand/phone shops , charity shops and now even tattoo shops. im not knocking tattoos in any way as i may have a couple… of small tattoos myself but 5 shops all within a 15 walk of each other worries me a little but im unsure why?????

This is so true! i once lived in ramsgate and moved away! best thing i have ever done! it is now a dive for low lifes. im glad you mentioned not everyone in newington is scum. as my dad lives there and works VERY hard! but yes the majority of newington is disgusting!! lets not forget to mention the flats by tesco in newington! need destroying and the people in it!
I have to admit that whilst Ramsgate has a lovely lovely harbour and sea front, a branch of Waitrose and a lovely Pizza Express in the old nat west building with views of the harbour, I avoid Ramsgate, and Margate as much as possible.
The place is poor, it’s poor because of the council’s incompetence and also because the council allowed Westwood Cross to be built which is gradually turning Ramsgate town centre in to Margate’s junior partner of nasty cheap and empty shops.

Yes very true, most of the filth are concentrated at Ramsgate, Margate and Cliftonville areas but the beautiful area of Broadstairs gets spoiled by these bastard low life because Thanet is so small. Otherwise I would have stayed.
You have summed up this place in a nut shell. Being a born and bred local myself all I see now walking through the town are dole poles, mental health, criminals and drug addicts, blagging the dole. These people who are dumped on us by London who want to get rid of problematic (i’m a character of eastenders) and expect us to be grateful for the money these losers bring in to our town??? Alot of them are from London whom moved with family just like any other towns but most of these chav scum are Thanet born and bred. This country is now generally a Chav nation, they are everywhere and breeding at an alarming rate. I hate most of them because they are generally uneducated dumb nasty scum filth that are no good to society in anyway, the other small minority of them are mostly misguided young fools and silly ladettes whom think being a chav/chavette is getting them the most respect in society, or they are hard and more intelligent when they get together and attack people whom are opposite of what they are.
