Wadebridge – The Poor man’s Padstow

Posted on: July 19th, 2010 by THCTOKER 11 Comments

If you have ever payed a visit to North Cornwall then the chances are you have stopped in a town called Wadebridge. Situated roughly about 8 miles or so from it’s closest enemy Padstow (a name which when mentioned around Wadebridge is usually accompanied by a spit on the ground) Wadebridge boasts several shops from Supermarkets like Tesco to Shitmarkets like Lidl, yes Wadebridge has it all even a large Co-op and a cinema. Now at this point you may be thinking “well this doesn’t sound to bad at all I don’t see why you wrote this” well allow me to take you from the highstreet to the Co-op car park. Here we have the first signs of what the locals are complaining about, youngsters on badly tuned mopeds who drive around the car park until the early hours. Amazingly these arn’t stolen mopeds as these youngsters rich parents can afford to buy them mid or top of the range scooters and the necessary tuning kits which they leave there children to install. Cue the sound of broken exhausts, high revs and car wing mirrors being smashed off . Eventually the moped gangs congregate with the walking wastes of space in the skate park where they sit atop the half pipe smoking there overpriced odourless weed and sipping on cans of lidl brand lager or tesco brand cider. At this point we see another gang of youths appear, this group are made up of the towns lower class inhabitants, teenage fathers and aspiring rappers who cannot ryme two words together and are known as the “Wadebridge Boys Massive” one of a few gangs who inhabit the town. This gang has been involved in many of the towns notorious crimes such as stealing from vans, breaking into shops, spray painting the town and worst of all…………. littering. Eventually when the alcohol has dried up and the single mothers have been impregnated again the gang disperses taking with them there stolen goods ready to sell on for drug money the next day because the dole money simply wont cover the expenses.

I’ve lived in Wadebridge since 1993 the last 4 year’s in molesworth street at first we were worried about the noise levels at the weekend we were pleasantly surprised ad there was actually very little! I’ve raised two boys in Wadebridge, 15 and 17 years old and I have to say that the majority of the teenagers in Wadebridge are well behaved, a good portion have jobs and buy their own mopeds etc, there are the drugs, stealing and fighting, every town has this, the local PCOS is fab and on a first name basis with slot of the locals. You have these problems where ever you live. The people of Wadebridge don’t really want over-opinionated idiots like you people visiting the town, if you don’t like don’t visit! I love Wadebridge and my family and I are very happy here!

I lived on the Platt in Wadebridge for two years. I seen loads of street brawls, some one get thrown through a massive shop window and nearly die. We caught people having sex and urinating in our stairs and where broken into twice. A lady ran her husband over in the car park behind our house think it was six times before she went home. There is a massive drug culture there and the place is full of knob heads. One could go so far as to say that until recent redevelopment of some of the area the town center its self had gone to the dogs. Anyone thinking its a good place to live obviously have a home on the outskirts as everywhere else is prown to all manor of crime. When we lived there moped gangs destroyed the peace evey day and every evening. I dread to think what it is like now with high unemployment effecting the young. Im sure burlary and car theft will rocket shortly. Hopefully london bankers will buy houses there and boost crime levels even higher ruining even more of Cornwall like they have Padstow

Agreed, you look at the young people in Wadebridge and think what a pack of inbred assholes.

People around here always know more about your business than you do, they talk about Cornish pride which sounds like the usual guff you can hear from any inbred retard that does nothing and goes nowhere in any other county in England. If you aren’t chattled to some thick bird planning kids by the age of 22, being a miserable c**t with the weight of the world on your shoulders, there is something wrong with you according to Wadbridge people. If you want to witness how not to live your life, come to North Cornwall.

P.s. boys of Wadebridge, being friends with people isn’t about having an ego litter.

    I find this highly offensive.

I’m 22 and have lived in Wadebridge since I was 3 (12 years on the town side, 7 years on the Egloshayle side), and let me tell you, compared to the chavtastic Bodmin (graffiti everywhere, police cars pulled up to council estates every time you drive through) and the hole-in-the-ground that is Camelford, we have a quiet, lovely, clean little town here, where I have never felt remotely unsafe walking through the streets at night. I had my boyfriend down to stay from Hampshire a month back, and he commented on how pleasant it was not to have the constant noise of motorways, foul-mouthed gangs of kids hanging around intimidating you, and drunks staggering around the streets at night.

Just because a place has a Lidl, a Tesco, and a cinema without 3D yet, doesn’t make it ‘chavvy’ or low class in any way – it just makes it a small, fairly rural place that isn’t high up on the economy. Focusing on a gang – a singular group of nasty youngsters, which you can’t tell me that every other town in the world doesn’t boast the equivalent of – is a really inaccurate, biased way of judging an entire town. And calling us ‘the poor man’s Padstow’ is absurd – Padstow is a quaint tourist trap devoted to novelties such as mini golf, boat rides and the mayday celebrations, but Wadebridge is a residential town, boasting plenty of shops and services. You can’t compare the two.

    Hahahaha so true.
I grew up in Wadebridge and a decade later have just about managed to wash the stench of ‘Barnies’ pasties, and Camel River scum out of my hair.
Unfortunatley the sounds of ‘Ged on maid’, mopeds and shitty ‘Bridge on Wool’ pub folk bands still haunt me to this day.
I venture back once, same arses on the same bar stools – albeit a bit larger.

‘Wadebridge Boys Massive’ must have replaced the equally imbred ‘Platt Rats’

Very entertaining, Wadebridge crime rate falls year on year, it has some the best facilities in Cornwall, great cricket, tennis, rugby bowls clubs and well performing schools and thats before you discuss the river camel with its fishing, boat club, kayaks.
Wadebridge is a secret we locals are happy to keep to ourselves. but thanks for the fun.

Well its all about personal experience really, i live about 10 miles or so away from Wadebridge and it’s not a case of judging by the cover it’s more like calling it as I see it really, but seriously not everyone in the town is like this just a select few, i’m a teenager myself so trust me when I say I no about the sort of people who are a bit dodgey seeing as I know most of them.
