Bury St Edmunds; in many ways is a very unique town. There are many good things to this town from the historic past and the low crime rate. However in Bury i feel there is a very high amount of “chavs”. Im a 15 year old male who lives in Bury and i do not want to be labelled as a chav. The main sign of chavness is the shockingly high amount of anti-social behavior, for example when i leave school i observe the high amount of smokers as young as Year nine smoking cigarettes and the elders even potentially smoking drugs. The older chavs tend to drive around Bury aggresively on mopeds being idiots, the place i often see them is on the Moreton Hall estate around a vandalised shelter. Moreton Hall is supposed to be a affluent nice estate which it is, However it is spoilt by idiotic chavs. Moreton Hall is completely opposite to the other side of town (Howard Estate) where there are disgusting houses and a reputation for drugs and anti social behavior. A true example of class differences. The conclusion, Bury is a wonderful town but like many other towns and cities there are chavs but Bury’s unique features like the Abbey Gardens and the historic streets this town is a relatively low chavtown. Just a word of advice; stay out of the Howard Estate!

those in Harlow are forced to sit around a KFC bargain bucket. I rapidly learnt that my evenings out would be spent elsewhere.
God this has made my day hahaha
I used to live on the howard estate……big up the howard smoking boys ¬¬ no.
However i moved from there and ended up on the priors (from one shit hole to another)
It is a nice town tho
Ive lived on the Howard Est for 41yrs ,brought up two children who both have good jobs and worked since leaving school, and I am still here, I like it.
It is quite quiet where we are tho you do from time to time get rowdy individuals passing by.
All parts of Towns have good & not so good parts , I think your Home & Street is what you make it..
Barnsley. AAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Where there are 12+ Tanning Salons, 8+ Tattoo Salons, market queues forming to buy knock-off fancy dress outfits so that swarms of slutty nurses, army girls, cops ‘n’ robbers can binge and screech it up (yawn) every (every) weekend …
Boarded up shops, graffitti, chewing gum, fag butts vie for attention alongside 30+ super-tanned (100% leather) freshly dyed (jet black or platinum blonde) multi-tattooed old trouts in micro-skirts and gladiator stillettos (or too-short/too-tight LBD for “classy” )raided from New Look parade from 8am to 8am next day – grateful for even a glance from rotten-toothed old “gimmers” sitting outside the job centre at 11am.
It is purest vilest 1980′s Essex again – Wham lookalikes, male and female, parade endlessly around the filthy barren streets, only in 2011 they are more grotesque as they sport metallic toenails, carry tiny Pomerarian dogs in Radley handbags and use the word “utterly” at every chance – in the exquisite Barnsley tone.
For real entertainment – try the carparks and seating areas outside some of the pubs ont’ way out of ‘tarn’…..its a chav-spotters dream – or nightmare … hordes (really HORDES) of ‘em – from 9.45am onwards staring into space, fighting or making out…brightest orange tans, excessively tattooed women and children…brightest white joggers or vest tops, enormous bodies squeezed into the tiniest of dresses, mulletts, yawn…
The behaviour is the thing though – the shouting. The language. The moronic staring at others outfits.
It’s hell is Barnsley.
posh ppl r 2 skard 2 go on howrd estayt init
I grew up on the howard estate and there were always stories of crime and violence but I never saw or experianced any of it, its all just hear say! Back in the 80′s I was told it was bad and full of criminals but I was not around then so maybe more hearsay. I think its easy to say these thing about a wonderful town, where ever you go there will be idiots and kids. That think they are cool by vandalising bus shelters!! The morton hall is a very nice place. I remember when I was at school my friends would not come onto the howard when they first started county because they thought they would be stabbed all because they grew up on the westley or horringer and had heard these rumours! My parents still live there and its full of familys and couples its not a bad place and its all very friendly. Learn not to listen to rumours and experience these places for your self. Bury is a Wonderfully friendly place full of history! No where is perfect but bury is pretty close!
I grew up and went to school in Bury and everyone used to be scared of going onto the Howard / Mildenhall estates because of the reps on there….. when they were about 10 LOL. Sure they had a couple of proper gangsters come out of there back in the 80s/early 90s etc but the reputation is completely undeserved. These estates were London overspill areas. I remember being told some of the families used their baths to store coal (grotty fuckers) Most of the mischevious little prats ended up doing a stint for bungled armed robbery (shitty BB gun for £20 from the local jet etc). Of course several of the scum of these estates did think they were “ard bastards” but really came unstuck when anyone remotely tasty fought back lol. and they werent with their 50 mates to back them up. Also I have to laugh when you say the Moreton Hall is an affluent estate…… maybe all the penis who bought property there in mid 90s think it is because they had a “new build” but the villages are where the affluence is at and the old buildings in the centre of town.
What school do you go to. Because I know one it definitely full of chavs
