I live in Benfleet and it's nothing like you said. Sure Tarpots is pretty shi* and I'm happy to say I live the other side of Benfleet near the fields (opposite of the expensive bit), which is a nice area! I think you're exaggerating a bit becuase there are lots of families at the Harvester at night! Most of this is NOT true!

Ahhhh the fortnight stay at St Mary's Bay!!! Yes, the highlight of our last year. Remember the cocoa at bedtime, and the scratchy old recording of the doings of Dr Syn, alias THE SCARECROW! There was a feature film made of this gentleman's life as a smuggler, starring Patrick McGoohan as I recall.
I also remember Mr Silk's pottery class, in fact my mum still has the ashtray I made her all those years ago.
As for Mr Royer, yes I was told about his military background. Pity he was teaching 7 year olds rather than German pows. He was an extremely nasty man who would have been 'filled in' by many a modern day parent if he had tried those tactics nowadays.
Don't recall Mrs Jones, she must have been well before my time. Do you remember the local nurse, Mrs Hatton, who lived just off Canopus Way? She was another nice memory from childhood, always with a kind word for any child with a cut or graze.
I remember the museum trips of course, as well as the zoo and also the theatre in the west end on one occasion. Windsor Castle was another memorable day out for us.
We also went swimming at Staines baths every thursday. I remember one day we never got as far as the pool, as some kid from another school had been unwell and left a number two in the shallow end.

When we moved to Merseyside, the cost of house and car insurance shot up dramatically.
The reason, we were assured by the insurance broker, is because the Liverpool postcode area represents a high risk, from an insurers point of view, because it DOES experience high levels of crime..That's based on factual data. We've since experienced it first hand on several occasions.

Gorton_Gal says: "everywhere is da same no matta where u go"
You stick to believing that and perhaps you will never stray into my home town which thankfully has a small cross to bear in the shape of a local estate. Everywhere is not the same, North and East Manchester has some of the vilest places West of Gaza.

"....psuedo disabled lazy bastards who travel via motorised spac scooter smoking as many fags as they can. (There are whole families travelling round in these machines – believe me)"
Time was when i would have said that such a comment stretched credibility somewhat. Not any more.
I had the misfortune to shop for lunch at Morrisons supermarket Eccles one day. On a sidenote never have I witnessed so many working age men not dressed for work during a working day.
Anyway, one of the aisles was well and truly a traffic jam. The reason was not a scramble for mock chops at bargain bin prices. It was because of three motability scooters with three most hideous lumps on board, all related I believe.
One a heavy duty model with huge wheels, piloting it a humungous lard tub about 40 years old and 40 stone, no chin, sweaty. The next was a woman of about 50 (she may have been 40 and a heavy smoker). Leather permatan face and obligatory Argos gold. Finally a youth of perhaps 16 years, about 18 stone, again no chin.
I made a detour to avoid losing my temper and kicking all three over. I sat in my vehicle eating lunch and sure enough they eventually emerged and parked more or less in the middle of the entrance area.
Exhausted from shopping they all lit up and enjoyed a cig while other more mobile scum filtered around their circle of wagons.

Every town has these factors, where ever you go, its happening all around britain. I'm sure the people that have commented badly on this are probably stuck up bastads that don't even no what a cigarette or alcohol is. Or they live in dream land and mummy and daddy had money so they don't know any different, wouldn't know a hard day graft if it kicked them in the bollocks. Grow up you sadistic pricks and take a long hard look at your live and your surroundings. we have lived here all our lives.we have full time jobs and a beautiful home.

So anyone wanna join us down cheeks tonite, we will be the two with needles hanging out of our arms, sniffing coke of the sides and pushing 2 buggys with four kids in (joke)!!

grow up and look at yourselfs before commenting on other towns!!

WE ALDERSHOT, WERE' MENTAL WE OFF ARE FUCKIN HEADS!!!!

LOL@phil (top ender n proud)
My family comes from Thurnscoe, I was born in Thurnscoe, moved away as a kid and moved back. So yes, Thurnscoe was my hovel, and I'm glad I could get the fuck out again and live somewhere decent where I dont have to keep tabs on the neighbour all the time. Being proud of your roots is fine, I respect that, but Thurnscoe is a shit hole, end of. Try living outside of the village for 6 months or more and you will realise.
